Welcome to the Region of Gotland

 

Here is a brief history of the region. The first city founded was Elba. It soon became a major port and industrial center. Later Sagronda Bend was founded up-stream of Elba. Sagronda was founded by lumber jacks who sent lumber down-stream to Elba. Elba then either used it or shipped it off to other citys. Soon Sagronda Bend grew to be larger and richer than Elba. Then, when Elba's port was destroied by a hurricane, it withered into a suberb.

Nice looking region, especially your terrain. Elba seems to not have alot of $$$ areas, but I just want to see Downtown!

Thanx! The region is large and will have a bunch of citys. The current downtown, Sagronda Bend will be the lesser of 2 downtowns. Just so that you know were the largest Downtown will be, in the first pic you can just see its name in the lower right corner.

i'm usually not a fan of your work but, wow!  that is a really nice looking region.  the fact that it isn't all skyscrapers (like your previous journal) is what i like.  i just hope the downtowns do grow too big.  maybe a few more scrapers could fill it up, but please don't make this a skyscraper forest.  they aren't appealing.  very nice layouts as well.  i hope to hear more on this region.

I don't know why everyone thinks Tashema was a skyscaper forest, The Downtown only took up a single large map, and most of that was water. I kinda gave up on it before I got to the burbs...

Anyway thanx for the compliments! It won't be a skyscraper forest and will have a smaller downtown. I hope to incorperate lots of parks and custom lots too. I also plan to update fequently.

I do like the terrain, smooth hills and rivers and stuff, very nice. I will have to wait for some more developement before commenting on it but the downtown layout looks cool.

Add some parks, parking, then it'll be awesome.  Maybe a freeway through downtown (rather than around it).  Maybe sunken.

Well as time progresses Elba's industry will vanish. It is kinda making the transformation from an industrial area with port to a suberb. I do intend to keep some manufacturing and add some hi-tech industry though.

Ok, I reached my goals for today. I got the park and the zones done for Verona. First off, here is an updated region pic.

 

Next up is an overview of Verona.

 

And finally a picture of Verona's Park (Please post suggestions for names).

Love that park. I find it so tedious getting down and doing large parks like that. My creativity just fizzles.

OMG, that's an excellent park. I also like how you've got roads on the sides of your avenues, like in the below ASCII diagram...

A suggestion, though: it'd be useful to make these Roads into one-ways as the city grows. This setup with the one-ways will carry alot of traffic.

Well, I did think about using one ways, but I hate the ugly unrealistic and frequent arrows. Also the reason I put those roads there is to make avenues a little more realistic.

I really can't take credit for the terrain. I found it on the MEX and did some slight modifacations. Really all this credit should be given to flamesrock since he made it.
