Education stays in red

Well I am posting in this particular forum because I think its some kind of bug or other issue thats causing this. So basically whatever city I start and play the education always stays low and won't go up. I try building schools, colleges, etc, but still in the red, I still get a middle class and maybe some $$$ but after a while this haults growth. Education funding is also to the max and its still in the red. I have a lot of plugins and some mods, so it maybe a result of some mod or plugin, are there any out there known to cause this? Looking at my mods folder could the radius doubler mod have something to do with it? I have SC4 Deluxe, and everything else is fine, so really I have no clue what could be causing this! Any help would be very appreciated!

Make sure your schools' radius cover as much of the population as possible.  Then make sure that your schools are all properly funded (fund as low as you can, funding beyond what they need won't make them smarter).  Elementary schools are the most important.  Libraries are a good investment.  The other honestly aren't as worthwhile, but you can build them if you have the budget, and they will still increase your education, though they're not as worthwhile as the first two things.

After that, you want to stablize your population.  Your sims will pass on their education to their children, but I think that new sims start out dumb.  This means that you want to keep buildings from abandoning, and you want to avoid bulldozing entire neighborhoods.  So try to fix all of your neighborhoods, and if that doesn't work, rezone unstable residential areas into commercial.

All of that is covered as the radius covers every inch of the map, nothing has abandoned, etc. Also I have other cities that have been going for a while with the same issue.

    Hi, I-275westcoastflorida,

If you have tried the Opera House Fix linked above and it didn't change, you may have the Phantom Funding Sliders Bug outlined in this thread.  See the post by RippleJet.  It isn't a modd per se that messes up finding, but a certain way you install modded civic buildings and save the game.  See the post for details and how to fix it.

    Enjoy the game

A quick search found this, and it does reduce education.  Were you trying to figure out what you had that was causing the trouble?  This would probably make it worse if you were hoping to find something that would help.

Yea I am trying to figure out what is causing this problem, I demolished all of my maxis education lots and tried with a 2x education multiplier and it helped ever so slighty but didn't change much. So I deleted that mod and now am stuck with what to do, none of the education lots I have increase education, I just used the maxis lots when building one city. Can the super demand ordinance do this? I downloaded that to build a city quickly, maybe that is why?

I'm not sure, since I don't use it, but I've never heard of it affecting education.  Does it have any ordinances regarding education?  You'd think if that modd was trying to increase demand, it would increase education, not decrease it.

If you haven't done this already, I would create a test city with no plugins.  I would gradually add all the modds I had, one at a time, until I recreated the problem.  It may take a while, but it may be the only way.  Or you could do the opposite, and take out one mod at a time, until it improves.  Do you keep all your modds in one folder?  It's a good idea, for ease of finding them.

Let me know how it goes.

I think that may be the only way to solve this, it might be a lot and not a mod who knows... Luckily my plugins folder is very organized by civic buildings, mods, etc so I'll probably start there. Thanks for the advice!

No prob, great--plugin organization does simplify things.  If you've tested without modds, and the problem is still there, it might be a badly modded lot.  I don't know if that would make education buildings not have much effect, or just get overcrowded.  If you find the culprit, let us know.  It's all a learning process, so that can be considered an education in itself.  3.gif

Bump.  I just saw on SC4D that SimGoober's recent upload, the Addison Library, has affected some schools, making their enrollment numbers drop.  Have you placed this lot in any of the affected cities?

Nope it doesn't seem like I have that lot, when I get the time I will go delete all the education and civic lots and see if that works. Maybe by accident I installed a mod in a wrong folder, I have to find some time and go through all my plugins which would take a looong time.

I play vanilla and I get high education levels.   You don't need to max out the funding, just have enough to cover the number of students you have.

How long did you have the education buildings there?    It takes a couple of years for the red to turn to green.

Did you place libraries and museums?   Sims "inherit" part of their educational quotient and libraries and museums keep the education level of the older ones from declining.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
