Railway not working for some reason

Ok so I'm a newbie and started bulding a city yesterday. I have a problem with my railway, as it does not work. I suppose that at least 1-2 sims would want to use it, even if its badly placed, but my current usage is 0. The railway links two cities - a city with residential houses and a city with small industry. The two cities are also linked by a highway. The pics below show how the two cicties are connected by railway. This is my industrial city, with two types of railway stops placed naxt to the railway line. 88681481gj5.jpg This is the railway in my residential city. I suspect that there might be a problem with the overpass over the sunken motorway, maybe thats why it doesnt work. 83309569es5.jpg This is an overwiev of how the railway line is placed in the residential city. The number 1s are tunnels. At the bottom there is another station, also the usage is 0. 52902004mj2.jpg I have one more question - after I installed some mods (NAM, SAM, Street Side Mod, and some lots) the cars started using the left lane rather than the right lane (UK style vs. Euro style), is there a way to fix this? thnx in advance guys 4.gif

hows the usuage of the highway

basicly its still a flaw in sim city 4

a sime leaving his house A to work B takes a route

he will take a train if its in walking distance of his work or house /OR/ if its the only way there(in this case he will take a car to the station)

he will not take the train if the above conditions aren't met

this comes because the pathfinding system works on distance and average speed per tile

not on average speed on the entire route

this means that wile the train journey might be faster on its own its the distance that the sim has to go to the stations that dicourages the use

find out how the sims are getting to thaose industries cause i don't see any othey way in then the rails cause the highway doesn't seem to have exits in the industrials area

1) you might help this is by adding a toll booth on the highway it will add revenue and increase travel times on the highway

2)analyse traffic with the query tool see if you could add a public transport system to support your rails

=> add parking lots near youre stations

3)make a road neighbour connection from the industrie and change it one way road 1 tile into the residential area in such a way that no traffic can get to the connection

this might trigger the pathfinding tool to start making routes

4) check if your sims aren't employed already it might be no sim has to work in the industries because the all have work already

PS the change of lane

perhaps you accidently choose this when you installed the NAM

Hello WeirdFishes,

Tip 1: The freight station will only be used if it can get your Industrial goods to a neighbor connection faster than freight trucks can.

Tip 2: If the automotive path to the neighbor is shorter than the rail path - then your sims (who really do prefer driving themseleves) will not use your passenger station; even when the rail path is shorter - it is still a good idea to pass any available mass transit ordanices - to help encourge your reluctant sims to use your rails.

As to driving issues - you need to read the documentation that came with the NAM modd.

-NetPCDoc

No detail is too small to be micromanaged.

Usually... the sims would use the roads at first... but it takes a long time for the sims to use the rails and you gotta wait...

I usually Isolate my residential zones from the major C/I zones.  I will put some low-medium density commercial offices near the rail station, though.  But I am all for mass transport.  Keeps the cars off the road, and lowers the conjestion. 2.gif

It looks like all the freight traffic is taking the highway instead of the railway - you could try demolishing connections to the highway to force your industry to move freight by rail and to force res. to take the train to work.
