SC4 Deluxe totally random crashes

Hey Everyone. Ive been having frequent crashes in SC4. I'm just working on my city then suddenly the game screen blinks once and I'm at my desktop. There are no trends or any particular action that causes it and im very sure this is not the infamous transit enabled lots + interchange cursor glitch. It can happen at any time, which is why its so puzzling. I have many plugins inc. NAM April '08 and CAM. BTW, I recently nuked my comp's hard drive and reinstalled windows. I also upgraded my processor (old one was a Celeron D 2.93 ghz) about a month ago. When i had that processor I used XP without any service packs. The problem started to crop up after the upgrade/reinstall.

Did you update the game from the officiial site after reinstalling? It doesn't appear that you have the newest updates installed from the exception report (version 610 as opposed to 640).

I thought i had the update but i guess i lost it w/ the reinstall. Im downloading it now and the BAT nightlites update, which i thought i also had. Im also going to try running the game with my virus protection turned off since i heard backround tasks can crash the game.

I happened to go back and read your system specs, and I noticed you have a P4 with HT. Just so happens that's what I use also, and I was experiencing crashes a while back. Something that worked for me (after trying everything else) was to disable the HT aspect of the processor. Once I did that, I had no more unexplained crashes. If you are familiar with how to do it, you might try it if you think you've exhausted all other possibilities. For what it's worth...

Not really.. SC4 in general is not multiprocessor friendly.. even the virtual processor (HT).. If you scan the web I am sure you can find ways to restrict the game only to single processor.. I used this for a while before AMD released their multiprocessor fix.. I expect its related to "affinity".. do a scan on the forums and/or on the internet.. I expect you'll find a simple answer.. this issue has been much discussed.. just not specific to HT  Doing this would not affect other programs from using the HT feature

Given that I'm not a big gamer or any other big anything on the computer (SC4 is about all I do), and I don't know your situation, I really didn't notice any reduction in performance for what I use a computer for. Even when SC4 ran long enough to play while HT was enabled, I didn't see any difference in game performance. For what it's worth...

Almost all CTD result from plugins, either faulty, or conflicting with one another. I would suggest you search for that solution rather than blaming the processor. I have ran the game with HT, Core2Duo, and Core2Quad with no frequent crashes.

OK I've run the game on one processor using the task manager. Game runs longer before crashing but still crashes . Its also a pain to minimize the game, bring up the task manager and set up the processors every time i start the game. Is there any way I can make my computer permenantly run SC4 in one CPU?

The reason it takes longer to crash is because you have reduced the computing capacity, and it takes longer to get to the same point that the game crashes.  So you have gained nothing, except killing more time.

Almost all frequent CTD are caused by conflicts between plugins, or just plain faulty plugins.

If you can open another city in that region you probably have lost that city. When using custom seaports, and/or airports you must read the "readme" and follow the instruction exactly.
