Game seems to be population stalling

Simply put, the game seems to have stalled at around 50k. It'll fluctuate around that point, going between 48 and 55k. There is high demand, but new development takes a while to start and often abandons. Medium and high wealth go between positive and negative demand, setting off (not too big) building sprees and then dilapidation. What's going on? My computer's more than good enough for this game:

C2D E6705 3.2Ghz

4GB of RAM

Radeon 3870

A point I should note: I hsvae no neighbors. Does this have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance.

hmm, make neighbor cities that helps

what size tile is it

do you overzone at all?

and can you provide a picture?

also, get the no abandonment/dilapidation mod here

The tiles in the region are all large. Yes, I rezone (if that's what you mean) sometimes, but the population fluctuations don't seem to be related to that in any way. Also, I once had a pair of cities that grew to about the same size, and due to off tile commuting issues, ruined both cities, so I'm a bit wary of neighbor cities. Picture coming up soon.

Build plazas and gardens this will help raise the r$$ and r$$$ population cap

the sims wont move in if the peep/greenspace ratio is too low

    Hope this helps

I don't think caps are an issue. The census building thing reports that caps are below 50% (at least last time I checked, which wasn't that long ago). I do have empty space around lots. Things do build, but they abandon after a while.

no no no, I mean zone large amounts at a time. I always build C$$$ and R$$$ and I$$$ in large quantities. Parts will sit there with nothing on them but city has room to expand. as bluemosse said, build green spaces. often times mansions will appear next to the plazas.

    No, I don't do that. I zone a bit at a time. Also, I don't really want more R

Yes, it's steady around 40ish. Never mind now, the games seems to have decided it wants to stall around 60k now, at least it goes up bit by bit. Problem solved, then. Thanks for helping!
