Pollution, traffic and other things

theres probably a million of these topics, but i can never find them so I'll ask myself.  If anyone can refer me to a helpful thread(s) that would be much appreciated.  Ive been playing Simcity for a couple of years, so am not new but I'm still learning a lot.

First Question

My commute times are over 100 minutes.  I have downloaded the most recent version of NAM but that hasnt really helped, and I do have Rush hour.  Its probably the because layout of my city sucks, but is there anything anybody knows of that will help me?  My city of 80k sims is really starting to die.  I have mass transit, but nobody is really using it.  Any help would be great.

Second Question

Is there any way to have industry without the pollution.  Sims don't want to live near industry (or so I gathered from the tutorials) so that kind of screws them over with there commute times.  The stupid environmental advisor won't shut up because there is so much pollution and if I tax the dirty industry, my financial advisor won't shut up because thats a bad idea.  Is there any way to make everybody happy?

You can't make everyone happy. Only high tech industries don't pollute.

Firstly, Make sure that you use bus stops. Place them in the Residential areas, where they need to go and by the mass transit stops. Add more stops where they need to go. Make sure that it takes them where they need to go and make sure that it is the fastest way to get there.

Secondly, Industry does not need to go in the same city tile. Place it in a tile next to it and connect it with roads, this way they have somewhere to go and the pollution does not get to the citizens.

Look up the cheats list, there are ways to (a) shut up the advisors and (b) turn them into llamas.

As for NAM, try experimenting with the traffic sim settings, find one which works for you.

I use a park called the moving ball that cuts down on pollution (both air and water). I found it on the sim city 4 exchange. It works great. Just plop a couple of them down in your city and the pollution will go down. But the park is a 4x4 lot so it does take up space.

I would also tax the dirty industry the max amount and keep the other industries tax rates down to even things out.
