What Do I Do!?

I started a new city today and it currently has this:

Population: 33,869
Funds: $380,716
Monthy Income: $8,448
Monthly Expenses: $6,621

This new city is very clean (no dirty industry....just commercial...Sims drive to dirty neighborhood that's connected that supplies jobs, landfill, etc.)

And it's a very nice place to live. But....as you can see, I've dropped quite a bit from the cash you start the city with. And you can see that I'm getting nearly $2,000 a month. The problem is, the city is growing so fast that I can't keep up with it. What I mean is....the income/expense is balanced, but I'm constantly having to upgrade things, which costs money. Lots of it. And every time I rezone, make more streets, upgrade a road, etc., it only makes it a longer period of time to get my cash back up. I really want to get my funds up to the high $400,000's at least, but I don't know if that is possible with the way the city is growing....What do I do?

Don't zone for a bit, maybe de-zone some areas and let the city run for a while without building anything. Just because your sims demand stuff doesn't mean you have to give it to them straight away.

First of all, what are you spending the money on? Is it really necessary at your stage of development? I can make an easy $3000-$4000 income by not spending my money on many services. I will have lots of R$ that way, but it turn a good profit. You do have a quite stable income, so check out your RCI indicator. If you think the time is right you can start zoning higher density, but you may need to provide more of the services you already have. If there's a very high demand, raising taxes just a little bit might also not be that bad of an idea...

first of all this happened to my friend he kept giving them what they wanted and it didn't works so well so slow down the zoning and building until you get a good income and you could also raise your taxes slightly if you wanted a little more income

It would also be wise to make sure that any schools, hospitals ect. aren't over funded; most of the time when you buid one it is not used to maximum capacity, so reduce the funding if you can (don't forget to leave a little 'growth room').

What do you need money for if not for construction and providing services to the people?

You really don't need to have hundreds of thousands at all times, but i find i almost always do, anyways.
