Bus and Congestion Solution

I am looking for ways to solve traffic congestion problem between old regions.

Background: I started a few weeks ago without knowing tis site so I don't leave enf space ( 2 rows from region boundary). I have two ways road around regions but somehow citizen only choose single road across region. As a result congestion ( red ) happens all the time even I have put bus stop and short length subway to help.

Question:

1. Do I need to put bus stop at the destinated region? Logically, how suppose do they get off? but SC4 does not always follow reality rules.

2. How can I force or encourage sims to take bus and subway instead of drive? ( They are mainly mid-wealth.)

3. I tried to build more high density comm zone within region to keep them from crossing but the growth rate is much slower than the neighbourhood regions.

Thanks for sharing

I don't know whether this will help.

I got the same problems like you got when it commes to congestion between cities. In my case the train lines are crowded, while the highway connections are ok.

I'd suggest a large scale operation.  Cut all streets and roads between the 2 cities. Make only 1 connection, like an Avenue or a Highway.

Citizens love cars, and whenever there are lots of streets only a few tiles away from the border to your neighbour city, they will drive by car out of the city, no matter how long they would have to travel in the neighbour city to finally reach their job.

If you got only one road connection to the neighbour city, the citizens would have to drive a long way to leave the city, and that will make em use other public transports. The less street connection you got, the more will people take the bus, the subway or train. Still, those lines will be crowded soon. The only solution would be to make lots of subway and train connections between the city.

And, yes of course you need busstations in the other city. If you got no busstations, people cant leave the bus and will ride on, wherever that bus might take them.

sims will always take the shortest route to their destination, regardless of whether it is congested or not. Try having only highways connectting your citites to "force" your sims to go the way you want them to.

I disconnected streets across and force the bus and car to use two-ways & tube. It seems to work.

    Only two things worry me

    1. Bus and tube stations at certain intersection turn red. I hope that won't discourage sims from going for jobs in the neighbourhood regions in the long run.

    2. Logically if they do, sims may move out due to no job and jobs vacancy in the neighbourhood regions will not have sufficient workers to fill the demand and which will hurt both residential and hybrid regions.

I will post follow up on the said matter asa I find out. Thx again.

    1. Red stations inject delays in travel commute time which is a function of how much overloaded it is.

    2. Could happen, but not directly as a function of how you have done this (unless you have some odd case)

Not that much. But this is usually the moment when you search the STEX for some bigger station starting the fine tuning. Hotspots require big stations. You're on the right path. You should get Deluxe/RushHour.
