    Update 6... continued

Following on from yeaterday's update I thought i'd add a few more pictures.  One set is the overviews I was having problems with, and the rest are a set of night views inspired by disturbman's comment!  I realise i've neglected the night shots a little lately.

I edited the brightness and contrast of the night shots... let me know if it looks rubbish.  It makes the lights a bit dimmer than they should be.

I hope you enjoyed this little bonus.  No new developments have been built, which is why I didn't wait until the next update to show these pictures.  I also intend to move away from the city centre in the next update.

deathtopumpkins: Yes, maps indeed!  I haven't started them yet, but I think I need to make a world map showing the shape and location of the nation, A districts map of Calder City for reference and some transport maps!

I like the arenas (as BATs) too!  I didn't re-lot them.  I just extended the lots in the game using some simple 1x1 tiles.  I think it's quite effective though.

Yes, LIH really is "Spanning the world"!

    Thanks for the comment

crazyarchitect:  Thanks, I'm glad you think it's beautiful!  I like the hotel too.  Thanks for the link!

edmonton_stinks: Thanks.  Don't rush!  I like this one house.  It would bee good to get a few variations though... but in your own time!  I'll come up with a team name soon.

kylelies: Shenzhen Univerdiade Stadium, Shenzhen Universiade Arena Shenzhen Universiade Swimming Center by dmscopio... They're fantastic!  I think those are the ones you meant.

disturbman: I think I agree.  That lot will remain a construction lot or maybe a simple park/plaza until I can find a nice, lowrise showstopper that won't block the view of the Gherkin!  I also took your advice on the night pics!  I'm glad you liked the update.  Thanks for commenting!

art128: Thanks very much. I hope you like this bonus too!

jacqulina: Thanks.  I'm pleased you keep coming back!

sammerhammer747:  Thanks!! I hope you enjoy the games updates... when I finally decide how exactly i'm going to do them!  I'm glad you like the stadiums.  They're one of my favourite parts of the city.  I don't pay as much attention to detail as you think!  There are many skills I still have to master!

EDIT: There seems to be a formatting glitch on Simtrop at the moment.  I've tried, but can't fix the wierd formatting above... sorry.

    Nice night shots!

If you need any map help, I'm just a PM away. I'm also excited to see them.

And I mainly ment the parking lots. I have the originals, and they definately don't have a concrete base texture.

Wow, these are awesome night shots. I specially like... everything. 9.gif It really give me a sense of what's going on down there.

I'm starting to have the feeling that, maybe, you should put some new and higher lowrise on the block down the new donwtown train station. The actual ones don't even match the station heights. But maybe it's too obvious and will ruin the feel of your CBD. What do you think?

Yeah... you make an amazing job at city planner, indeed you are a much better one than myself. 9.gif

Thanks a lot for taking my advice, and my request. 4.gif I'm glad I've initiated this update.

Glimpse of New Gelderland... No 1.

Hi. Me again!  I've decided to introduce a new feature to my CJ.  Every now and then, leading up to the full introduction of the New Gelderland CJ(or CJ's... I haven't decided yet) i'll show some things i've been working on for that project.  Hopefully all of these 'glimpses' will have at least some relevance to Calder City.

So; for the first glimpse i'll show some graphical maps of the country and it's location in the world.  I realised that, while I refer to the nation of New Gelderland often in this CJ, I haven't yet given much away as to its location or shape.   Here are a few maps i've made using a simplified style.  I haven't made all of the regions yet so i'm not too sure of the finer details.

Firstly, the New Gelderland islands in relation to the rest of the world:

    NewGelderlandIntheWorldv2-800x.jpg

And now a larger map showing New Gelderland in relation to Australasia:

    NewGelderlandinAustralasiav3-800x.jpg

Just New Gelderland and it's major population and political centres.  There will be more large cities dotted across the islands but I don't think they'll be as important as the cities marked out here:

    NewGelderlandsimplelinewithcities.jpg

The major city adjoining the capital is Calder City.  The other two major cities are; in the west - New Rotterdam, and in the East - Manchester. The 'other capital' is an as-of-yet unnamed city that is the government centre of the northwestern archipelago, a seperate country within the union - think of the Channel Islands in relation to the United Kingdom.

Two maps I made that might one day be used as presentation graphics.  They show the nation's outline decorated with the two flags of New Gelderland:

    The Union Canton:

    NewGelderlandunioncantonflagv1.jpg

    The Redfern Flag:

    Nice job!!! 43.gif

New Gelderland looks like kind of a walking quadrupede (I wonder if it means something at all in english), or a falling man.

jacqulina: Thanks.  I'm glad you liked the night shots.  That's good to hear.

crazyarchitect: Thanks.  I'm glad you like them too.

spore415: That's a lot of exclamation marks!!!!  Thanks indeed!.  There won't be any embassies in Calder City as it's not the capital.  I might do something like that in Hamilton though.  Hamilton is the Capital of New Gelderland and is a close neighbour of Calder City.

deathtopumpkins: Thanks!  Thanks for the offer of help too.  I like your transit map, so I might ask for help on one for Calder City.  I'll try my own first.  I've never made one before so i'm not sure how it will go.

Really?  I haven't edited the parking lots at all.  Do you nean the ones around the Helsinki Convention Centre and the Calderfields Arena? Strange.  Maybe it's the result of a texture clash or a missing dependency or something.

disturbman: Thanks.  I'l consider what you say about the buildings around the station.  I don't really want to re-develop the shopping area just yet, but It was always a possibility that I might in the future.  I'm glad you like my style of city building!

edmonton_stinks: Thanks very much.  I just got your new house by the way.  I haven't installed it yet though.

deathtopumpkins: Do you!? lol.  Google image search - extra large images.  I love it.  Thanks for the compliments.

disturbman: A what-ne-what now?  I like the idea!  I never really thought about what the islands would resemble.  I have to admit though, It's not obvious to me!

crazyarchitect: Thanks.  That's why I included them!  Now everybody knows where New Gelderland is!  I'm finding it hard though to avoid a lot of modern English/European influence in the city.  I'll try to explain away any oddities!

OK then, just PM me if you need help on it.

Yeah, I can tell by the lines. It's the only one that really looks like that. I've used it for a school project before (in fact everyone did--it was the only map any of us could find the right size 18.gif 2.gif.

Hey, psander- You've got a really nice start to your CJ here, and a lot of well-deserved compliments after five pages. Calder City grows in detail and depth with each page, and your well-laid out urban area really shows off details like the wide-radius highway curves to full advantage. The maps are a plus- we'll have to check with someone from Perth to see if you can see it on the horizon (just kidding!).

Anyway, I know I'll be back.

    David

    Teaser1.jpg

    Teaser update:

It's been a while since my last update so I thought i'd show a few pictures of what i've been working on.  I haven't done much because i've been playing and making another New Gelderland region: New Rotterdam.

Below some samples of the kind of thing you'll see in the next full update.  It's an as-of-yet unnamed medium sized town which predates Calder City and lies to the northwest of the metropolis.

The town lies just beyond the edge of the Calder City suburbs and the surrounding county is mostly farmland:

    Farms:

    farms.jpg

    Townhouses:

    resi.jpg

    Town Centre:

    centre.jpg

Info, wide shots and details will follow in the full update... It's still under construction!

    Repliesbanner4.jpg

deathtopumpkins: Yeah, I picked it because it was big and had the right type of outline.

    TimeMaster: Thanks very much

    Ntq$310: Thanks!

disturbman: erm, I can't remember all of them, and for some reason I can't make links on Simtrop any more but search: "White plaza set" and "Urban Beautification pack 1" on the STEX. They're the main plazas I use. For the parks I mostly use a modified 1x1 grass lot and mayor mode trees as well as "BSC parks" and PEG park trails (on Pegasus' website).  Hope that helps.

dedgren: Thanks for the compliments, I'm honoured to have you here.  I'm glad you like Calder City.  I got your PM, and i'll show my face over at 3RR soon.  It's thanks to your CJ that i've tried to put more detail into the wooded areas of the city, particularly the farm 'hedgerows'.  See above pic.

SirUnger: Thanks, I'm glad you like the maps.  I'm making more!

    jacqulina: Thank you

Ooh... nice teaser! Those row houses give the term 'building repetition' a whole new meaning! And the shot prompted a 20-minute long discussion between me and my mom (who travels to the UK a lot) about British houses, and she says that the row along the street that do not have a back garden are unrealistic, as all of them would have if they're at all old, as townhomes always had a back garden because people used to grow much of their own food, so no one would have wanted that nice of a townhome without a back garden.

Regardless, I think it looks great! Besides, you're not recreating the UK, but rather a SimCity.

The farms look good too, but try some custom ones? 2.gif

Amazing updates! The metro area of Calder looks great and I liked the farming town as well! Great looking island and I can't wait to see more of Calder, it looks very intricate that there must be hundreds of sights you made.

    Looking forward to more sights!
