Thank you to all who helped me get elected and who gave me your vote. I shall not fail in my promises about the transit system. All that the ads said was true. I shall work to improve bus lines. I shall work to get mass transit operational once needed.

I will not have weaving on freeways when they come, or left exits. I say now, and pledge to all citizens, that future freeways will have no weaving, and neither will their interchanges. There shall be no at-grade intersections on freeways.

I take a hard line against congestion. I develop transit plans so well that congestion hardly has a chance. But if it happens, as soon as I know about it, I will work towards the solution of the problem to the best of my ability.

I am sure that this will be a momentous second term for me and my department. We very well could see the first freeways in this term, since inter-city traffic is near.

I pledge to serve above and beyond my call of duty as DOT head throughout my term. And I look forward to serving Virgin Shores for many terms to come.

All these promises will continue to be kept as long as I stay in office.

Well, since the Inaugural Adress is done, back to work for me 3.gif.

Patricius Maximus,

Head of the Department of Transportation

I have skimmed up to page 23(then I just skipped to the last page), and I am impressed the topic creator is dedicated to his city journal. The city is looking great, I wonder what the city would look like with some skyscrapers!

    congrats with Virgin Shores!

Thankyou to all those who voted in support of my candidacy, and even though I didn't have an opponent this time round, I'm pleased that citizens still showed their confidence in my campaign.  I promise to proceed according to my manifesto.

    [sTARTED AT 19:47 VST]

    It's here. The mother-of-all-updates!

    UPDATE 18!

First, I'd like to show the open-for-business Coast Line, Virgin Shores' first bus route.
A link to the route map can be found in my sig.

Here is the northern terminus of the line, at Crazyarchitect Corner:
    1811CoastLineCrazyarchitectCornerTe.jpg
    Bus stop by Pegasus.

The line then proceeds west down the Coast Highway to Main St., where it has it's next stop, which I seem to have forgotten to take a picture of. Sorry.

The next stop, down Main St., is at Center St. just south of the roundabout, at the doorstep of the Embassies and LIH Headquarters.
    187CoastLineMainCenter.jpg

Next down the route is the stop at the Coastal & Western Railway Station.
    189CoastLineRailStation.jpg

The route then proceeds across the stone arch bridge, and turns left onto New Sibelus Ln., with the next stop being up the hill in Oak Grove.
    1818CoastLineOakGrove.jpg

Down a little farther we find un1's resort, and the southern terminus of the route.
    1822CoastLineResortTerminus.jpg
I'm aware of the grid. It doesn't seem to want to stay off when I exit and reload the city. I did turn it back off during this update though, so not all pictures have it.

While we're there, LIH's latest property, a Days Inn to compete with un1's resort, was just completed across the street, along with some shops proposed by un1 and Hampi.
    [Picture linked to full-size version]
    1827DaysInnandShops.jpg

Now we'll head back north up to the woods west of Main St., which were just cleared by Patricius Maximus for his latest housing development.
    1824PatriciussResidentialDevelopmen.jpg

Then we'll head down to the seaport, where Patricius has struck again along Port Blvd., with a commercial development.
    1826PatriciussSeaportCommercialDeve.jpg

A quick glance up the hill reminds us that it's been a little while since we looked at Hampus Village, so we head up there next.

It seems a lot has changed since this small town's humble beginnings, and many more affluent residents have moved in.
    [Picture linked to full-size version]
    1825LookatHampusVillage.jpg

Heading even farther north, we encounter another development by Patricius Maximus, some commercial along the Coast Highway.
    1823PatriciussNorthernCommercialDev.jpg

Down a side street from that commercial, we find the new, HUGE, Virgin City Hospital.
    1814NewHospital.jpg
Part of SimGoober's Health lots pack.

Back on the Coast Highway, we notice something unusual...
    184NeighborConnection.jpg
    The road doesn't end.
We follow a few meandering curves, and several rail crossings, and come face-to-face with the edge of the world! (told you it was flat!), and this big, yellow arrow-thingy! Hmm... we decide to investigate this one another day.

STAY TUNED to find out what happens!

Hope you guys liked that story-ish POV. I could, if I felt more creative right now, have done it a little more elaborately, so expect more of those to come.
Now on to the technical side of the update: Graphs, data views, and diagrams!

Some of the new department heads have requested graphs and data views representing their duties, so I just decided to take a shot of every one that could be useful to any department.

    1821EducationbyAge.jpg
    181LifeExpectancy.jpg
    1810HealthCoverage.jpg
    1813EducationData.jpg
    1815WaterPollution.jpg
    1816PowerGraph.jpg
    1817WaterGraph.jpg
    1819WaterPollutionGraph.jpg
    182DemandGraph.jpg
    1820EducationGraph.jpg
    185WaterCoverage.jpg
    186PowerCoverage.jpg

    Hope those were helpful.
Now I've got a few specific ones to talk about.

Some of you may be glad to know that the bus system was happily received by Virginites, with usage hovering at about 300/hour (RL-interpretation of game data, only an approximation) for the whole route, which is pretty good. People use every part of it except for the stretch between the Coast Hwy. & Main St. stop and the Center St. stop., which I don't know why has no usage.
Here you can see the bus usage:
    183TrafficVolume.jpg

I also have a data view showing the volume of usage along the line:
    188BusTrafficVolume.jpg

That about wraps it up for the in-game shots, but here are a few other things:

After the sucess of the Coast Line, I am proposing the initial stages of two other bus routes, the Green and Red lines. (The Coast Line is aka the Blue Line)
Here is a system map, that is supposed to represent one that would be posted at stops and in schedules.
    BusSystemMap2.jpg
Again, Patricius, what does the DOT think?

I believe that concludes this update. It took a really long time to make, but I hope I didn't leave any requests out.

That is a great update, the mother lode indeed 2.gif

Now looking at water, everything seems find, though that pollution is starting to near the pump station ,at this point there is still nothing to worry about. And there are some area's in the mountain area's and around the coast that dont have water, and i think we should give it to them 2.gif

On power i would like to request a land grant of 20 tiles somewhere in the Tile though out of the main virgin shores development area, as much as possible atleast. This 5 x 4 area will be used to power the tile for future needes having the space for many solar plants, and eve nuclear.

If this development happens quickly i would like to put 2 solar power plants in that area to keep virgin shores energy needes safe, if we cant agree on it, or it takes too long please build the solar plants in another area.

Now completly unrelated to my position as u.c head, i would like to create a company in virgin shores.

    virginshoresnationalbantm0.png

Basiclly I want to give the virgin shores everything it needes to be realistic, and be econmiclly booming, so what better then banking?

I would like the main building to be this

might be too big for the time being but personally i think it works.

And for the actually banks i say this would be a good match

And thanking of good locations for the smaller banks, Hampus Village ,Oak Grove, and frontier, with the main hq bring somewhere near the main business district of virgin shore. You can even try to use the new influx of jobs to promote bus use.

This is my proposal to the planning department and dtp to bring good banking to the area. You can change any part of it you dont like or just scrap the idea, but Thank you for your time.

-and the impossibly long reply continues 9.gif

After seeing the great sucsess of the resort area ill throwe my hat in the development

    1827daysinnandshopsfullhz7.jpg

Now the darker grey represents streets, the black represtents roads, the light grey represents the wall.

The dark blue area will become a high class resort

The 2x3 light blue will be a resturant

And the 4x4 light blue will become another resturant

I hope all this will make the area a even more attractive place for tourist and residence alike, and not to mention to boost to the econemy.

And With that i can say good day....or good night.

Superb update, and all the better for the wait! I like your coverage of the new bus route, and i'm pleased it turned out to be popular!  The new developments have been implemented well, and Hampus Village is looking very smart indeed!

I like the new hospital, and i'm intrigued as to what we're goung to find beyond the edge of the world! (though I guess it might be a place called Arrowheas Point! lol)

The bus system map looks great.  If I might ask a question: What program did you use to make the map... I've been trying to find the most appropreate program for this kind of thing for my own purposes!

Business: Ntq$310 & ericlewis91: Your proposals are under consideration, and i'll post my decision's & recommendations in a separate post later on today (I wanted to comment on the update separately)

The DOT is pleased with the new Blue Line, and approves both the Red and Green lines for operation.

My developments look great. I'm glad my developments can make an economic contribution to Virgin Shores.

Coast Highway? Arrowhead? Sounds like a neighbor connection to me. It occurs to me that Coast Hy. will become a major route in the future between cities, among other roads.

Okay I just read all 29 pages in 7 hours.  I have a couple of sugisttions.  1) I think there should be a Department of Saftey handiling crime and fire protection.  2)  Can I have a hotel, house, and a couple of shops on that Island in the top right corner.  There would be a ferry that connected it to the mainland.  There could also be a beach on the island and a walking path that went around the island.  It could be called Snoopy's Village.  But only if you give me permission DTP.

The name of the hotel is Hotel SolYMar on the STEX.

    ATTENTION EVERYONE!
I accidently left out a very important picture from the last update, so please go back and look at it.

    replybanner.jpg

Ntq$310: Land grant approved. It'll be along the proposed highway ROW west of town.
The bank should be fine too, though that building might be a little tall (I already have it) for the city right now. I think we should start with just a couple of the smaller ones. Though I'm not particularly fond of those BATs, I can't seem to find any better ones, so I guess they'll work.
Hey, the Hotel ZaZa! LIH owns one of those in Franklin County.
The Olive Garden should be fine.
Outback should be fine too. That one looks exactly like the one near me... Probably because me & SimGoober live in the same area. It might even be based off of the one by me!
We'll have to wait and see what the Planning Committee says about all this though.

ericlewis91: Yeah, do you have a specific BAT?
The Planning Committee will look at the proposed locations when they can.

supercity124: I did mark the building as the VSDN's headquarters, I just forgot to take a picture of it. There'll be another issue when I make one.
Also, please remove the Utility Commission banner from your sig. They are reserved for Department Heads.

    jacqulina: Thank you!

Hampi: Me too! I think it's one of the nicest places in town to live.
I thought it was the most interesting name... 18.gif

    penguin007: Thanks.

    psander5: Thanks!
Yep, Arrowhead Point! That's the next city north.
To be honest, I did the map entirely in MS Paint! Well, the text is WordArt from MS Word, but I copy-pasted it into Paint. You can do amazing stuff with Paint, you just have to know what you're doing.

Patricius Maximus: Good, then I'll start on the Red and Green Lines next update.
Yep. Neighbor Connection. As stated at the top of this post, I accidently forgot to actually post the picture with the update, but it's been added now. I plan for the Coast Highway to be the main scenic road between the towns, but still build a highway when the time comes.

rct3twins: People are allowed to campaign as much as they want, sorry if you don't like it. I do hope it will be a little less next month though.

DoctorJ: Well as of Update 17, it was 7,854, but now it's probably just over 8,000.

Snoopy235: Well a Department of Safety's not needed right now, as there's no crime (OK, maybe a fight once of twice a year), and there hasn't been a single fire in the 30 years this city's been in existance.
Hmm... I don't think Dorito Island's big enough, and the gap between it and the mainland is neither big enough or deep enough for a ferry, but I might be able to put a house and some shops on it. We'll see what the Planning Department says.

Oh and I forgot to say that it was a great update! 9.gif

And it's exciting that we have connected to another map! Hope their will be something built there soon!

And i*m also glad that Virgin Shores has started to build bus lines, that's a great addition to the city! 4.gif
