This is a website of mine full of (mostly my own) photos to highlight the best and worst common British styles of architecture across buildings of all common types and sizes.

One hope is that it can provide some inspiration to Monte Cristo for their (CITIES XL) buildings design and modelling team.

UK Architecture Photos

All of the galleries will be updated with new pictures until i've run out of ideas  2.gif

Website needs a lot of polishing... but anyways, I thought I would also post here at Simtropolis in case BATers of British buildings want any inspiration as well.  2.gif  18.gif (I can provide more views of any building). It's not so much a BAT request, just offering ideas if they are wanted. 1.gif Cheers! I can BAT, but I'm very slow. Probably take me a month to make one building...

(Also feel free to comment on the site or in this thread, or repost and discuss any pictures here if you like.)

The goal of this thread is to ultimately have BATers do those buildings, so it's a request, whether you're requesting them, or "inspiring" them, lol.

If you want to I can either move this to the architecture forum, or the BAT request thread, or I can delete it if you don't want it at either of those places.

lol that's true. i don't like the idea of "officially" requesting them. i'm a bit uncomfortable with it when there are THAT many buildings and i'm sure there are plenty of other requests to be fulfilled.

i do want to give ideas which a BATer may see and think that they would like to make that building. we do have a few members who focus on British buildings. some of those buildings have already been BATed (the victorian rowhouses by Gascooker, for example).... is Gascooker still active at any sites? 34.gif

so yes, this can be moved to the Architecture forum or BAT request thread instead. whichever is deemed more appropriate. i would say move it to the BAT request thread but could it be put in the Architecture forum instead so that it can keep its own thread? any discussion on my photos or the buildings themselves is welcome. 1.gif

Well I have countless buildings I would LOVE to see BAT'ed.

The Houses of Parliament, as well as Buckingham Palace, Belfast City Hall, Greenwich Naval Hospital.

Happily I did have one building transformed into a BAT. The Northern Ireland Assembly Building and the first ever Irish BAT made for SC4

that's a very nice building! who worked on that one?

yes there are lots of parts of the world where the buildings have been mostly overlooked and not BATed by anyone in any huge numbers. it would be great to see more buildings from different countries to help build authentic looking cities 1.gif that's one thing i hope comes for Cities XL in time (if not in the initial game release)

Ok, I've bookmarked this page. Strangely enough I had a picture of the bungalow at Stafford Avenue in my to-do list (from a Google search). So if you can post more pictures of it I'll have a go.

Better still the full location so I can view it from Google Earth. (Makes it easier to get a more accurate Bat)

    regards

    Mntoes

oh really... was it the same picture of mine? could have come up from www.citiesxl.com

i shall add more views into the page at the website for you. if any more are needed after that i'd be happy to provide them.

as i said, none of the buildings are specifically requested. no pressure to anyone 2.gif it's just my personal collection of building styles from Britain that i would like to see used in city-building games (present and future 9.gif). plus i love taking photos of buildings and city or town scapes 1.gif

No problem. I'm curently working on two Detatched bungelows but I'll move it up the to-do list.

Don't know wich site it came from I usually just do a Google "image search" and save any pictures I like, but it was the same picture though.

Edit   Yes, I remember looking at the house at Elm Grove as well. Must have been your site.

I may have a go at that as well. I warn you I'm not that fast at batting though.43.gif

a short way down this page, you can see the model used with some fancy photoshopping work! he also showed it to me at an earlier stage, last year i think. well it's the New Rhodesian Parliament, but it's based on the Houes of Parliament.

nah, many of them are though. (so far) i've got pictures on there from around the following areas:

    - Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Rainham, and Dagenham (easternmost Greater London)

    - Limehouse, and London Docklands (eastend of Central London)

    - Dalston (northend of Central London)

    - Tottenham, and Edmonton (north London)

    - Enfield, Waltham Cross, Walthan Abbey (northernmost Greater London and slightly over the border into Hertfordshire/Essex)

    i get around 1.gif

EDIT: oh BTW i love the hilled approach to the Northern Ireland Assembly Building in the photo, and the sheer amount of trees it is surrounded by. very picturesque.

one building i think would work well. it's always nice to have more buildings with "different" shapes. too many would be unrealistic, but it adds much needed dimensional diversity - especially when Lots can only be rectangular and face N, E,S or W.

King Henrys Court / King Williams Court / Queen Elizabeths Court / Queen Marys Court [1]

this curved building would blend nicely with roundabouts. more images here

i also think it's a fine example of modern mid-wealth apartments. there's another good example on my site of an old (early 20th century or late 19th) apartment complex with a U-shape building, but i need to put some more pictures on its page so that the whole building can be seen.
