That will be cool if the makers of Cities XL to put a feature like disasters in Cities XL,

Fantasy Disasters: like Giant Monsters, Alien Spaceships, Alien Invasions, Zombie Invasions, and Whirlpools.

Natural Disasters: like Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Wildfires, Tsunamis, Tidal Waves, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Floods, and Avalanches.

Manmade Disasters: like Riots, Plagues, Toxic Acid Rain Clouds, Nuclear Explosions, Terrorist Attacks, Plane Crashes, Train Crashes, Car Accidents, Arson Fires, Locusts, Gas Explosions, and Oil Spills.

Those are the disasters that I would like to see in Cities XL.

So, I would have the makers of Cities XL to post a blog on www.citiesxl.com.

Uh, you're wrong there, Mr. Monorail Man, Tsunamis and Tidal Waves, both in their proper tense, are very different things.

A Tsunami, created by various things (displacement, tectonic activity, impact, etc.) is basically a large wave, but it does end - it has both up and down to it (although the down can be long in the coming). When the wave nears shore, it becomes a nearly-vertical wall of water, dozens of feet high at times, and you're guaranteed to get a headache for a while, if you're not killed.

A Tidal Wave is more like a sudden elevation in water level. Not really a wave, or series of wave, but a uniform raise. This is why it can be even more devastating that Tsunamis - those killer waves only go so far inland before retreating, yet Tidal Waves, since the water simply raised, just about covers any and all land that's below the raised levels, and stays there for a very long time, sometimes even days (happened once in the Netherlands). Also, they're much less vertical walls when they approach - more like a huge rounded watery hill that's coming towards you.

Of course, both inflict massive damage, yet I believe its important to differenciate them. Just so you know.

And while I'm on topic, may I agree with those disasters suggestions... Although, if I could add a few (just for my sadistic pleasure):

- Lightening storms (to wipe out electrical grids, send your Sims in the Dark Ages for a while)

- Sinkholes (what's worse than having a neighborhood suddenly sink beneath the ground...?)

- Oh, and parallel to your Nuclear Explosions, I'd add... Nuclear Winter / Nuclear Holocaust. M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction), basically.

- And if I may be crazy enough, Solar Storms - the kind that could wipe out all electrical systems on Earth and keep us in the dark for years. Saw this on TV recently, quite creepy.

I’m a guy who just can’t guy right.

All of those disasters sound great.

However, seasons is the ultimate realism for any city.  As I have read with many blogs about Cities XL there will be different themes for your cities structure, well how about locations too?

For example cities closer to the equator have a higher climate and cities further away have a cooler climate.

With these climates selected certain 'disasters' can apply to your city.  If your city is centralized in northern Canada there may be blizzards in the winter and droughts in the summer.

Cities along the eastern seaboard can have the risk of tsunamis from underwater earthquakes, but the main threat being hurricanes.

Many of the disasters you all have proposed seem like excellent ideas; I'm especially partial to the lightning storm one.  (It's always cool to see what a realistic effect would be if a lightning storm struck your city).

Another idea, although it may be somewhat obscure, is the fujita scale associated with twisters.  That way not every structure in your city is obliterated when a twister swings by.

Another thing we have to remember is that Cities XL main objective seems to build a city.  I know it's cool to watch your city crumble to the floor as you reach for the quit and don't save button.  But I really would like the developers to focus more on the aspects of building a city instead of destroying it.

^^ I think thats a really good idea with the different disasters in different areas.

Definetly, they should focus much more on making cities unique and customizable than on disasters,

i really liked the disasters part of sim city series

the lightning in sc4 had to be one of my favorites, as it was always fun to aim it at cars

a nuclear hollocaust would be something i would like to see as i always enjoyed setting my nuclear powerplants on fire then watching the explosion take out a few sqare miles of city

or a zombie apocolypse, would be rarther fun although from a disaster point of view it doesnt have much of a impact on buildings, people disappear, stop paying taxes, city goes a bit dark and some places catch fire

Blizzards is another good idea for a disaster, which results often in power supply problems and lots of traffic troubles.

I always loved building a huge city in SC2000 and setting a couple of fires then trying to contain them all. THAT WAS SO AWESOME!!!

I hope cities XL doesnt turn out like societies, and the disaters sound awesome, like flood... raise seal level 5 meters, then come back and demolishing any buildings that were submmerged. And i think the solarstorm would shut down power for a while, then you would have to build new power plants when it was over because the generators exploded! 9.gif43.gif

Bumdark you are wrong. There is no such thing as a tidal wave. The closest thing to a tidal wave is a tidal bore which is based on tides.  I hope that Cities XL have random disasters.

Ive always liked the riot, especially in simcity 2000. Sometimes the rioting can get so bad that you just need to call it a day and click the hurricane button a few times.... drown them all and then rebuild your roads/power plants and hope the city regrows.

I think that the inclusion of floods would make me the happiest. That has to be my favorite disaster from Sim City 2000. You just never knew how big or small an area was going to get wiped out!
