My old compter which SC4 was really slow on recently passed away due to lighting (thank Lord!) and I am looking to buy a new one. I have a couple questions though about graphics cards.

SC4 is the only game that I play on the computer. Should I get an integrated video card or should I get a or should I get a discrete video card? If I should go with a discrete card, which one of these is capatable with SC4?

RadeonATI HD 2600 XT

ATIRadeon HD 2400 PRO

nVidiaGeForce 8300GS

thanks for the help.

out of those three Radeon 2600XT is by far the best.

If you tell what's your budget we can make a list of components that will most suit you.

Sorry but I DO DISAGREE here.

If it's only SC4 you want to play on your new PC don't touch ATI cards. A lot of people have or had big performance problems with ATI cards - the newer the worse - but I never heard anyone complaining on nVidia.

An old  FX5200 should be enough for SC4 but Ibuying a 7x00 or 8x00 isn't a bad choice if you think about maybe playing any other games.

I used a Geforce2 MX400 with 64MB RAM until last year when I bought me a 7600 with 256MB. Before SC4 was released I even used a Riva 128  and I never had any problems with my nVidia Graphic Cards.

What's your budget?

But like what nardo said, SimCity 4 isn't that much a graphics hog. I remember it would run fine on my old computer (Nvidia 4000MX, Pentium 4, 512MB RAM) but as areas got more detailed SC4 would start to lag.

2600 xt looks pretty good to me. I didn't look at the pro as it seemed worse and that card is already cheap enough.

When buying graphics cards it's always good to get the fastest one you can AFFORD. Games are constantly getting more intensive and so by buying the better card you're saving yourself some trouble later.

then again, 3 years ago a 7600 GT was 150$ at the cheapest. Now you can get a card twice as good for half the price...
