NAM General Discussion Thread

People.... i have installed the new NAM just like i'm supposed to.... all of the dat files i use... Network addonmod, Left Turnmod, 10X10X5xTrafficPluginPerfect ect.mod, Roundaboutmod, Diagstreetmod, antnetworkmod, custom highwaymenu, automadapluginin radicalautomata24, railstack addendum,  all of these file are in my SimCity4/Plugins/ directory... no subdirectories.... i've deleted all earlier plug-ins. even the GLR plug-ins, the diagonal street plugin. the roundabout plug-in, the nam cosmetic mod plug-in.    Everything works BUT the Left Turn Lanes.. I do not understand!!!  it worked with the last update... now it doesn't.... I have read the README and have done everything that i'm supposed to .... is anyone else having this problem????? Is there a cure!!!???. any help would greatly be appreciated1.gif

    For the most part your post includes the necessary relavant information, but your post lacks the specific detail of the actual problem. It would help if you clearly elaborated on the issue a bit better.

    First off thank you for responding and this is totally not a complaint... I just want to use the wonderful work that you'all have put together to its fullest... and i appreciate to no end any help that i received..
    I used the earlier NAM's with absolutely no problem ... until.. i installed the 7.25.05 update... I used these peticular files and they are put into SimCity4/Plug-Ins directory with no subdirectories: They are as follows:   1.SimCity4/Plug-Ins/NetworkAddOn.mod
                      2.SimCIty4/Plug-Ins/NetworkAddOnMod_Addendum_Y_Rail_Stack

    All the plug-ins that are associated with these file works.... exept the left turn lane plug-in... whenever i drag an avenue to avenue... all  i get is a standard avenue to avenue connection..
    A you can see in the pictures above... diagonals work... and i know its not a complete roundabout .. but it works .... so do all the other plug-ins.   I deleted all former GLR plug-ins and all earlier NAM plug-ins ... I never installed the Traffic Cop plug-in or the Transit Bug Fix so it can't be that either... I have over a GIG of plug-ins so i really can't go into too much detail about whats in plug-ins  directory.
    I know i don't have any other avenue mods because I deleted them all when i couldn't get the new left turning lanes to work....  ?!!!  I hope that helps????!!!!!

    Well I dare say it looks like you might have a file conflict on your hands. Apart from going through & checking all the files you have, I would suggest (temporarily) placing all those *.dat files into a subfolder & name the subfolder so that has a Z at the beginning of the folders' name. As that may give you some indication.

    Behaves like what? The small graphical difference along the edge between the two tiles? Never noticed that before. Might have something to do with the slight terrain variation there.

    No. When I say behaves like this, it mean that the tile change when you hover the cursor over it, from what you seen on the left to that seen on the right.

    Ok thanks. I have a fairly good idea what's going on. These particular items were created long ago before a recent Model/Texture file format was discovered, which is what your picture is related to. So I'll see about fixing it, but it may take a little while (hopefully not) as it may be more than just that one item.

    There is a specific thread where you can post requests. Otherwise, not sure I follow. I will point out though, that the NAM contains no Lot files at all, such as those found in normal Buildings Lots.

    Well, that could be converted into a custom network piece, with custom paths. But I don't know if you can have paths go back on themselves?

    so I was wondering if it would be possible to make Road and light rail combo puzzle pieces?since you made El-Rail and road pieces would light rail and road pieces be the same just with the el rail lowered to ground level?

    what I basicly mean is the rail to be in the road...

    I mean for the light rail and the road to be on the same tile sharing the road like these crappy drawings show(I drew these in only a few minutes) I mean the trains and the cars in the same lane..I'm not sure if it's even possible but thats why I'm asking.31.gif

    rymac just suggested something so i will to. could we have trolley buses? it could be a set of puz pieces that the bus would follow. and there would be the elictrical cables above.

    Both af been suggested there before. I don't think that anyone has started on it or have any interest in doing so at the moment.
    @rymac: I just place a road on both side of the glr track.
    I am not sure, but don't think that is possible.

    @rymac: There are two problems with on-lane GLR tracks. At first, car traffic and trains use different automata layers. The game does not take care about that, so cars go through trains and trains through cars as if the vehicles are invisible for the other type.

    The second problem is that masses of new puzzle pieces are needed. Regarding the el-rail-over-road-puzzle pieces, the multiple number of pieces is needed to satisfy all situations but only a few are made. No piece like you described is made yet and more than 4000 combinations are possible. I don't believe that there are enough people going to create textures to finish a basic set.

    I'd like to throw my support behind these.&nbsp; Finally, El-trains will be worth using!&nbsp; I would like to request, though, that multiple versions of those be included with various combinations of the roads beneath.&nbsp; (E.g., the T-juntion with a road T-intersection underneath, with just a road turn underneath, with a road 4-way intersection underneath, etc.)&nbsp; There are a lot of combinations, though; how many people out there would find them useful? (Hopefully, when SC5 comes out, these networks will be built-in.)

     
    I really look forward to seeing these puzzle pieces - they will make urban rail truly functional.

    Tropod:  I took everything out of mydocuments/simcity4/plugins/ directory and the ones that are in the maxis/simcity4/plugins dir... just put the NetworkAddonfiles that i like to use and guess what... my Left Turning Lanes came back...Now i have to decide if I am going to go through 2Gigs of plug-ins to find out what's causing this conflict.... Does anybody out there have this problem and if they do what file caused your conflict.  Help a brother out... Thanks....

    In the NAM there is a Roundabout file right? Does that give you the roundabout to place in your cities? Because then it isn't working.

    I'd suggest firstly taking a look at the file names, as that may help. Otherwise, you'll need to systematically go through them to find what is causing the conflict. The quickest way to do this is to split in half the number of plugins you have in half, & test each half; & continuing doing that until you find the problem file(s).

    Tropod:   I found it!!!  and i have no idea what is used for: zzz_Teirusu_Custom_Rul_10000002_062405.dat ... it and a couple of other Teirusu files were both in MyDocuments\Plugins and in the Maxis\SimCity4\Plugins directory... finding wasn't as hard as i thought it would be... i just took out groups of files and directories alphabetically and starting the game up after each deletion and it would have to be the last file in each directory!!!!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ....

    Files like these may often be released in Development threads, for development (i.e. Work In Progress) purposes. It is upto users who download files like these to keep track of what they're downloading. Usually when the NAM gets publicly updated files like these often become obsolete & need to be removed, otherwise they will most likely cause conflict issues.

    Tropod - sorry - that had an error and I forget to cancel it; Here are some bugs I found for you:

    Bug 1 im not sure if it's a bug at all but there's plaza textures under that highway - is that supposed to be there?
    Bug 2 is the connection between the highway tile and the y-stack interchange - as you can see it's connecting diagonally and almost straight from an avenue, but the connection doesn't flow - if you know what I mean?

    Bug 3 concerns the diagonal streets mod - as you can see there seems to be no texture allocated to this type of junction. Or simply it shouldn't be allowed? Hmm - up to you...

    Bug 4 - Im not sure about this one either but the diagonal streets mod doesn't like slopes - I was hoping if one of you could fix this?
