Game endless crashing....

SimCity 4 deluxe edition started crashing randomly when I was playing the game. This was the day after my dad replaced my computer's old hard drive (5200 rpm)with a new, faster hard drive (7200 rpm). The computer was faster after he installed the new hard drive. He also copied all the old hard drive's files onto the new hard drive. My laptop has a laptop cooler on the bottom. I haven't installed any new plugins, but I did delete some unneeded plugins.

My computer system info:

Processer: Intel Core Duo Processer (not fully sure)

RAM: 3 GB

Hard drive free space (that isn't used yet): 124 GB

Hard drive speed: 7200 rpm

OS: Window xp home edition service pack 2

CD drive speed: 8x

Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon x1400

I almost forgot, most of my plugin files' name's color are blue, not black. They used to black, and when I click on one of the files, it says it is compressed. I never did compress the plugin files before. Also, some other files' name color in my computer are blue, not black. The computer can still read the "compressed" files, but I am worried.

If any files are compressed that is probably the issue as games tend
to not work with compressed files, during your copy over that option
may have been set.It can be undone i don't know how though.

On the blue color of the names thats normal that has nothing to do
with wether it's compressed & does not indicate a problem.

Go into "My Computer", right-click the hard drive, select "Properties". At the bottom, there is a box that says "compress drive to save disk space", if this is checked, uncheck it. If this doesn't work, right-click your plugins folder, and click "properties" there is a button that says "Advanced" click it, and uncheck the box that says "compress contents to save disk space".

My hard drive and my plugin folder is unchecked. There are other nonplugin files that has the blue color. I think the Window disk cleanup program was the one compressing the files; I am not sure.

EDIT: The plugin files aren't blue colored, but they been compressed by the DAT packer and the backup plugin files' ( they aren't in the plugin folder) name color isn't black, but blue.

I think the blue name/text color just highlites files you use the most for you to find

    them easy.

Most of the files that been highlighted blue are the ones I rarely use. I haven't used the plugin files for weeks when I stopped playing Sim City 4 for a while.

Yeah i just found some files on my system that have the blue &

they are compressed so it indicates compressed files so ignore

    what i wrote above.

Did you or your dad do a disk defrag recently i think that compresses

some files that could have compressed them.

If it's the compressed files or just a bad plugin file even, delete your old

plugin files(just in the plugins folder)& reinstall them(first besure to backup

any you created or all if you want).

If the game still crashes try a reinstall(if you didn't yet)that should fix it.

I was the one who was disk defragmenting and disk cleanup every week on my computer. I noticed disk cleanup often compresses old files and the disk defragmenter also compresses the files. So it was the two programs that was compressing the files?

P.S. my game finally stopped crashing!

Great glad you got it,Yeah theres not much you can do about defrag
compressing the files it does that with files you don't use much to
open more space on your drive.

You have to do a defrag at least once a month(it depends on how much you
use it)or the computer will start slowing down.
