How I reduce "crash to desktop" errors.

Ever since I began using SC4, the program has periodically crashed to desktop after a few hours of play. Many times the crash occurs sooner than that. Anyway, I noticed that the program crashed more frequently when I was using the scroll feature on my mouse to zoom out and view my city. With this said, I now try to only use the - and the + sign on the keypad to zoom out and I have had improved results. I believe that the program has only crashed once to desktop since I began to use this approach, over a week ago. Let me know if this helps to reduce crashes for anyone else. Good luck.>3.gif>

I've been having the same problem! I'm glad to hear it doesn't have something to do with something hidden deep within the electrons of my CPU.

I believe this happens for some computers when they overload. Scrolling using the wheel takes more CPU usage because it zooms out multiple times if you adjust the level of zoom by more than one. If you use the keyboard, it automatically zooms to where you want it, less stress on your computer.

Yeah, the stress theory seems sensical, as when I would previously zoom out using my mouse the computer would slow down before the crash occurred. By the way, SC4 has not crashed since I stopped using the mouse to zoom in and out. Also, thank you C.C. for bringing the article to my attention, it is nice to know that this is a legit, viable solution for SC4 users.
