Call of Duty 4! Possibly the best in the series! A major online success with thousands of people online at all hours of the day. Naturally, there are going to be a lot of not so god players, and I would like to offer this forum to assist those people.  In my school, I am somewhat of a legend and people are always asking for tips on how to play better. I will now share some of these, and I encourage others to do the same.

--Choose the right class for the course:  It is a good idea to keep at least one class slot open for change at all times. During the intermission, adjust the weapons loadout and perks for the map and game type.

--Keep moving:  If you stop, you die. Simple as that. If you have to check a message, use the bathroom, answer the phone, etc, etc, try and find a concealed place. If you are sniping, you take one shot and then move, even if you miss. Snipers are high-value targets and many people will want you dead.

--Flank!:  Flanking is the best tactic in the book. If you have the option to utilize it, do so. Attacking an enemy head on will get you killed most likely. Attacking from the back leaves them surprised and disoriented.

--Know your maps: Knowing your maps will save you from being picked off by snipers, help you avoid airstrikes, allow you to flank, and do much more. Several maps have secluded pathways such as tunnels that will get you through high danger areas safley.

--Teamwork:  You have teammates for a reason.  Try and form order amongst your team, and have each person play to their strengths in small squads.

-Cook your Grenades:  Grenades have a five second fuse, meaning that they go boom on the sixth second. Remember that they are best served cooked, not raw.  4 seconds should be the optimum cook time for clearing buildings. If you hold down for 5 or more seconds, will regret pulling the pin.

--Anticipate your enemy:  Battles are predictable. People, likewise are predictable. Observe the battles and anticipate enemy momement. One of the best ways is the "What would I do?" method.

I hope that I have helped at least one person. I would like to see some of your tips too!

Most of this stuff is fairly standard, but I do want to point out that, for any mutliplayer type game, your biggest asset is knowledge.  People are predictable, so know your enemy.  The best players know where everything spawns, when it spawns, and show up a second or two after it spawns.  It gets even more interesting when really good players know that Player X will be at a specific location, so they show up just a couple of seconds earlier to blow him/her away.

Also, a large part of the game is psychological.  When good players miss the shot, you don't hear them say "I can't believe I missed that!"  Instead, they reposition themselves and get ready to take the next shot to clean up the mess they made.  If not that, they swap weapons and tactics and prepare to deal with the consequences of their mistake.  Either way, they don't waste time thinking about how they missed.  They spend their time thinking about how they're going to stop you.

Seconding these.

Also: find a kit you play well with, complete its challenges and find a perk combination that works with it. The guns you earn at the higher ranks, DE/Barett/MP44, are all overrated. I've had the most fun using an RPD with red dot/ extra ammo/ stopping power/ deep penetration.3.gif

I'm on the verge of CoD 4 pretty soon. I played the first one decades (well it feels) ago and I loved the rollercoaster effect of moving and shooting and moving and shooting and somewhere catching up with your breath. The only one knock I heard for this sequel though is that, just like carnival rides, the story & therefore the game, tends to be very short and quick. Is it true? (And I ain't good enough at any game to do an online multi-player thing. 21.gif )

I love CoD4. It's the most realistic and engaging shooter I've ever played. The online play is really addictive, too. There is one thing that I have learned that has been vital to me, and that is to shoot from the hip. This being the first Call of Duty I've played, I had gotten so used to shooting down the sights that it's how I've tried to kill every foe, even if they're right in front of me. Unless the enemy is a good distance away from you, keep the gun at hip level and fire. It keeps you more agile, able to turn quickly and strafe faster. I also like the Steady Aim perk in favor of Martyrdom or Last Stand.

Using the secondary grenades and weapons makes for some interesting kills as well. A stun and a frag thrown in rapid succession can issue a death sentence for someone. When sniping, use the claymores to secure your sniping spot. In HQ matches, use the C4 at different entry points. RPGs can be a good camping weapon, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not a fan of ***** tubing, but whatever gets the job done is worth it. Even silenced weapons and the dreaded UAV jammer are fair in love and war.

If you just want to rank up quickly, headquarters is the best way to do it. Frankly, I'm more into the good ol' team deathmatch. Search and destroy will give you a number of completed challenges. Weapon challenges are probably the easiest way to rank up. I keep using a certain weapon, even if I don't like it, until I complete the highest marksman challenge. I always aim for the torso, so I never go for the expert challenges.

From what I've heard about the previous games, this one's story mode is somewhat shorter than the rest. However, playing around with the various cheats (slo-mo, infinite ammo, ragtime) gives it some added replay value. And the multiplayer is thorough enough that I would recommend playing some matches online.
