Guitar hero I, II, III, and 80's

In my city (suburb of Minneapolis) has been greatly effected by Guitar Hero, two shops have came here (Guitar Center and American Guitar and Band) to sell and trade guitars. Tell whether any events or things you have about Guitar Hero and/or tell some of your favorite songs and battles or just comments about the game.

Myself, I'm not really a fan of Guitar Hero. There are several gripes I have about it:

-There isn't really much "game" to it. All you're doing is pressing buttons in time with music. Gets really monotonous really fast.

-It doesn't really require any particular skill, talent, or thought. How good you are at it depends solely on how fast and how accurately timed you can press buttons. You could easily program a robot to play it and be perfect at it.

-You need to purchase a huge fecking guitar thingy to play it, two if you want to do two player. You can't just play it with a normal game controller. I hate being made to pay extra to buy ancillary devices to be able to play the game. If I can't do it with the controller I already have, I'm not interested.

-A lot of idiots get really good at it and think that they're automatically as cool as someone who actually plays a guitar when they're not.

Then again, I have a habit of not liking things that are widely considered "cool", so don't mind me.

-False. You can play with a regular controller.

-True, but not all of us. Especially the ones that get really good at it. Most of those people do play real guitar anyway because of guitar hero.

I'm from Minneapolis too. I don't know about American Guitar and Band, but Guitar Center has been here for like 30 years. Guitar Hero was made because a lot of people play guitar, not the other way around...

Duke87: Eastwinn is Right. I have been playing guitar for quite a while and eventhough it is NOTHING like real guitar, it is still fun.

So, you don't like people who have been inspired to play real guitar because of guitar hero? I'm sorry, but that is so ridiculous. What's so wrong with play real guitar? And why most they be disliked because they liked guitar hero first? Playing guitar and learning about how to read music is a good hobby and it's so much better than sitting on your couch eating potato chips all day.

I'm sorry, but it really bugs me when people say that.

Why are they idiots? Please explain. I was unaware that people that love a game and want to perfect it are considered idiots.  But, if you are referring to the kids that think they are cool because they play, then I agree. Guitar Hero is just a game, it doesn't make you automatically cooler.

Hmmm...my favorites to play are "Knights of Cydonia," by Muse; "The Number of the Beast," by Iron Maiden; "Reptilia," by The Strokes; "Lay Down," by Priestess; "Cherub Rock," by Smashing Pumpkins and "Prayer of the Refugee," by Rise Against.  All of those are fun and challenging...and good songs, too.

more than one song by a7x and more metallica and what on earth are they doing

with an entire game just about aerosmith! there good, but an entire game

Well, I actually played Guitar Hero in public today.  (It was already a weird day so I figured what the heck.)

I was in Best Buy for other reasons and passed their Guitar Hero demo, which no one was using.  I set it to a song I had completed before, Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with your Best Shot", set on easy.

It was funny watching people's reactions.  I guess they don't expect someone who looks like me to be able to play Guitar Hero.   (Although anyone who is actually good at it knows that song on easy is very easy.)

I had several sales people walk by and comment "Hey, you actually know how to play that thing" and one customer (a man in his 40s) stopped and watched until the song was over.   He seemed amazed.  I tried to get him to play it but he refused.

and, for the first time, I actually got the star power to work by tilting the guitar.

We're looking at the next guitar hero god right here. First it's passing HMWYBS on easy in Best Buy, next it'll be Full Comboing Jordan on expert 1 handed.

Rock Band is the antichrist because it almost killed me.

My friends were playing "beat the setlist" and on the 42 song, one of them had to go up to get new batterys for the guitar. The other two started playing ping pong. One of them missed, the ping pong ball hit quit on a guitar, bounced to another guitar and hit "Confirm". Then they started fighting, and i was laughing so hard at how lame they looked that i choked on my water. That is how Rockband almost killed me.

Guitar Hero? Nice game, not my favorite and not a game that I'm any good at. Unfortunately, it looks like Activision is going to "EA" the franchise with countless spinoffs like GH: Aerosmith.
