It's funny. Before I was born, people who did such simple things as read Serbian news papers would be labelled as Communists (which was as bad as being labelled a terrorist). Now it seems like any "semi-major" crimes are labelled as terrorist acts. I simply find it funny how we have adopted this same attitude, but with a different title and context.

These are most likely petty anti-war demonstrators.

Whilst I am able to see the issue from their point of view, an act of violence as a means of political expression takes us back before the hundreds and hundreds of years we worked to conceive the very ideals of democracy. A peaceful protest will suffice, attacks on your own nation for attention are barbaric, ruthless and show a major lack of reasoning capability. Since we live in an era of such high paranoia, the implications of an attack on one of America's most iconic places could be taken way more seriously than need be. Imagine an attack on Piccadilly Circus, La Gran Via, or the Zocalo in Mexico City? The sheer iconic value of these cities could blow the event way out of proportion because they are such common targets.

(Well, maybe not Mexico City so much..)
