itim501 was asking not for a ton of sc4 vs scs discussion , but this is a little funny , for a little help(I dont play scs , but SC4 , so I cant help you with scs), how long have you worked on your biggest cities? it will take a long time to make any big city.(modern looking cities should start with education if you want to make them more modern.)it took about 6 months to get a million in simcity 3000(i loved that edition)and about 3 months to get 400,000 in sc4 , so it does take time.Again , this is SC4 advice.

Sims will move in your city largely for work(somewhat realistic) ,so by putting jobs(like industry , high tech is far more likely to grow if your education is high and pollution is low in the area.)and enacting ordinances like the tourist promotion program , which increases the damand for cs$ and produces more jobs. also , sims have to have a place to live , so provide good residential neighborhoods too.always try to make traffic and the commute time low(by making grids with your streets , it will do a lot better)

I see that this is an scs discussion , I just thought I would help with sc4 anyway because you said you liked sc4 too.hope this helps.

the best advice I can give you here (without getting pelted too much with rotten fruit) is to build your city with prosperity, authority and productivity in mind.  those types of buildings have the highest population and best income potential.quote>

You're absolutely right... except that people here usually throw tomatoes, not fruit.quote>

um tomatoes are fruit.quote>

It's a vegetable according to U.S. law.  It gets a bit complicated, but I'm half-right.quote>

Okay, now that's just weird, the law determines whether something is a fruit or vegetable?

It has seeds, so it's a fruit- end of story... 3.gif ... or not?

How did we get from SCS skyscrapers to a debate about tomatoes anyway?>3.gif>

Not quite. Strawberries are actually vegetables because their seeds are on the outside and peppers have seeds and their not fruit and wha about cucumbers? they hae seeds

According to worldnet.princeton.edu, a fruit is the ripened reproductive body of a seed plant and a vegetable is the edible seeds or roots or stems or leaves or bulbs or tubers or nonsweet fruits of any of numerous herbaceous plant.  Therefore, a vegetable is technically anything that we can refer to as 'vegetation' eg leaves, roots, stems, and even fruits.  A fruit simply holds seeds.  Thus a tomato is both a fruit and a vegetable.

As far as SCS is concerned, it is a misnomer.  Simply put, it is a different game made by a different developer and appeals to a different audience.  Because most of the people who play that game like SC4, those people are not going to enjoy it.  I, myself am a diehard SC4 fan and I will not sample SCS.  Maybe someone who plays Caesar, Children of the Nile or some other kind of government simulator would benefit more from SCS.  It was messed up that Tilted Mill took such a tilt (pun intended) and created a game that was nothing like the previous SC's simply because they wanted to make the game more similar to games that they made in the past.  At the same time, you all were fairly warned that this game was NOT a city simulator.  CitiesXL, on the other hand, seems to be Monte Cristo's way of intercepting a failed pass between Maxis and Tilted Mill and let me tell ya, if they can created a good pathfinding algorithm, find a proper use for airports and seaports, and improve the street and building textures to that of an isometric 2D/3D SC4, Ill be so happy, I think I might slap my momma and kiss strangers.
