It was during a blizzard, I was just getting on the off ramp when the car in front of me put on the brakes to slow down and suddenly spin so it is perpendicular to me, driver side facing me. I was quick to react and just narrowly avoided it, with the right side of my car just narrowly squeezing between the other car and the guardrail (I actually hit the snowbank, since there was so much snow it covered the guard rail, but luckily it was fine powder so I went right through it). I've only been driving on my own for a couple of months now, and this happened maybe a month ago. Indeed had a huge adrenaline rush, I'll bet the guy in front of me got the crap scared out of him too. 3.gif Thankfully I was driving at a good distance away from him, and not too fast.

Actually there was one for me the other day. We (my Mum, Dad and I) were driving down the M1 from Leeds (on the infamous stretch between the M62 and the M621) in the fog, and a lorry braked before a traffic jam and hit and spun a Nissan. Oops. Looking back, I realise we were lucky it didn't jackknife into us!

My apologies, I swear I have nothing against anyone.  Just found hotdog's observations very witty and all...

Sorry, sorry.  I really am.

Anyways, the only car "crash" I was in was on this random street in Colonial Heights in town when we (my dad, my brother and I) stopped at the intersection into the Hanwell Road (busy arterial road) and some black SUV with a French speaking lady in it hit us from behind.  Unluckily, my brother was learning to drive in standard, but thankfully we were in Dad's old pickup and it didn't suffer any damage other than paint scratching.  It wasn't a hard hit at all, too.  She had a crack in her front bumper, and paint scratches.  My dad can't speak French at all and my brother can't do much in it, so I was mainly the one doing the translating...awkward.  3.gif

I'd say my closest call was once nearly drowning at raging waters. Apparently i didnt know how to swim as well as i thought (Different now) and usually when crossing the street when those dumbass drivers don't stop but wave at you appologetically (sp?) and then you stand there thinking, why are people like that allowed on the road!?

It was on the M25, near the M11. I was driving through peak hours (I was late so I was getting pretty desperate, lol) and someguy tries to cut me off so violently, I had to swerve into the lane next to me into oncoming traffic and I almost crashed and I had to swerve back into my lane to avoid getting pounded by the guy next to me after the other man went back in his lane. It all happened pretty fast, almost hit a lorry. I passed the man by and shouted some pretty obscene things that I probably should've thought twice about

My mom and I were at the local McDonald's, wating to make a left turn. There was heavy traffic, but we finally got a break. A minivan pulled out immeadiatly behind us and was hit broadside, sending it spinning across 3 lanes of traffic.

Or there was the time we were travelling on Route 29 (a highway that runs through town) and some teenage girl backed out of a driveway in front of us, we swerved around and honked while hse gave us the finger lol.

New York is horrible in the winter... anyways we were on the Thruway I-87 North headed towards Troy when a tractor trailer came on the onramp right ahead of us. All was fine until we were driving over the bridge. The Truck Changed into our lane and a HUGE sheet of snow came off the top of it and fell on our car we almost went off the side but thankfully my dad was quick on the brakes and we just nicked the side of the guardrail. Traffic was light so nobody hit us from behind. Even so, it was terrifying, we almost fell 150 feet into the freezing Mohawk River...

My moment was probably when me, my mum, stepdad and stepbrother were driving on a steep mountain road with hairpin turns. We had a large boat on the back of our jeep, and we must have hit some oil or somethin' at a hairpin, 'cause we suddenly swerved. And this is a no-guardrails, cliffs next to side of road place. We had a choice: either turn left and go over the cliff, or go right into an embankment. Luckily, my stepdad was drivin' and he used to drive V8 supercars, so he knew what to do. Into the embankment we go, (i thought i was dreaming at this point), and we got stuck. Everyone was fine, and we were REALLY lucky because the boat trailer's wheels got caught on two rocks. One was sticking out of the embankment and the wheel was resting on it (if it wasnt there it would have gone into the embankment). And another that was sticking out of the mud above the embankment that stopped the wheel from going to far.

We werent the luckiest though, someone actually did go off the cliff a while back. They were lucky 'cause they ended up landing in a tree, lol, and they were fine 4.gif

I was on a bus that managed to get itself stuck in a toll booth18.gif

Anyways, the worst I have done is I had a fender bender in a parking lot. I was backing out of a space between two pickups and couldn't see and I hit another car that was driving through the lot.

The best traffic accidents are the ones you avoid.  Good luck in the future.

My closest call was when I nearly died in December 2000 from blocked coronary arteries.  My family doctor got me into hospital with almost no time to spare.  I had a triple coronary artery bypass in January 2001, and am told that it is good until 2030 after which they can do another if necessary.

Since my 100th birthday will be in 2037, I am planning to celebrate it with my kids and grand kids and maybe great grand kids, who if all goes well should be around by then.  As far as staying around, I like the number used by Methuselah.
