I've tried importing it into 3ds Max now, but it doesn't appear to working correctly.

Note how the objects seem to be rounded at the edges and one wall appears to be transparent.

If anyone has any clever ideas how best to transfer files from Blender to 3ds max that would be most helpful.

I have never seen any 3D software from the inside, but did you have any auto-smoothing functions enabled maybe? Just a wild guess, of course...

I think it's something to do with smoothing groups. I might be wrong though. Try clearing them. At the bottom of the right window pane, there should be the rollout about smoothing groups, press the button that says "clear all". However, if you have a round object that actually uses smoothing groups to look smooth, then you don't clear all. signature See if it works 4.gif

Thanks43.gif,  when importing I had to set the Smooth group to 0. That appears to be fixed now. 1.gif

Now, next problem, certain parts of the building appear to be inside out:

Here you can see that one wall seems to be invisible.

Thanks for any help. 43.gif

no smoothing was enabled and it is strange since the red object is one object and to save time i replicated three by three windows and repeated so this makes no sense

and its .obj for this occasion by request of thequiltedllama

in RL there is an addition but i left it out because it looks stupidly square the windows are perfect squares and this is the original building so it ,ay not match the real life one exactly but i am basing this on three pictures (the back of the building is security pass only)

Smoothing groups are always enabled when you import .obj files into max for some reason/

I had similar problems when I worked as a summer intern needing to transfer CATIA to 3ds Max.   It's often nearly impossible and more trouble than it's worth.

My advice would be to get a real operating system.

Well help was given, there is no need to be so rude. If you don't like it here then there is no reason to be here.

I'm sure there is a massive community for WINE you could ask.

This lovely person has a guide on how to run the game on linux here:

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use a Windows computer effectivly.  Furthermore, Windows doesn't hate you, and thing's don't just happen.  Considering my Windows came from the same place, in a very similar box, and is working very well, I doubt Windows is what caused the problem.

Possibly, but not a very useful one.  For the most part, all CAD and 3d work is done on PCs because that's what Autodesk (maker of 3ds max, Inventor, Combustion, AutoCAD, etc) and Dassault Systems (maker of CATIA) release their software on.  I'm sure you've heard of computer artists buying a Mac just so they could use specific Mac software, well if you're serious about 3D modeling you may just have to come to terms with a Windows Based PC.

I don't think you're going to get around Windows and you may have to just accept that it works perfectly fine.  A solution however is to use Innotek Virtual Box to create a virtual Windows machine and use that for your BAT.

I'm sorry if you don't like it, but that's the best advice I can give.

    i'll tell you why

for some still unkown reason my computer decided whenever i switched it on it would load up let me log in then ten seconds later it would justrestart there was no way to get rid of it ok so i had to wipe the hard drive. now i wish to remind you that i do not earn money my money comes from the ground so i couldn't fork out £50 for windows xp (it was preinstalled on my computer) and vista is even worse so i had to at least get it running so i am running ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy

If it's still under warrantee then you should ask the company to send you an XP disk. Or if you are happy with your linux then see my previous post.
