ok i know this a bit of a iffy topic to start up at simtropolis but i found it interesting enough, and if people can take the topic seriously enough i dont see a problem with posting it

this is isn't a topic for discussing who takes it and your opinions on people taking it, keep that talk  for somewhere other than simtropolis

anyway so i came across a few news stories the other day,

the first

Unlocking a cure for cancer - with pot

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig5/armentano-p1.html

Who could imagine that cannabis might one day offer hope as a cure for cancer? The United States government, that’s who.

For the past 30 years, U.S. officials have willfully ignored clinical research indicating that marijuana can inhibit the growth of certain type of malignant tumors. However, the recent publication of a trio of clinical studies and a pair of scientific reviews have effectively blown the lid off "Cancergate," and revealed that pot’s medical value may be far greater than ever presumed.

And the second

Obesity Treatment Gives You the Opposite of the Munchies

http://www.wired.com/medtech/drugs/news/2008/01/reverse_cannabis

New results show that Merck's experimental anti-obesity drug, which acts as sort of an inverse marijuana by blocking the brain receptor that pot stimulates, significantly reduced appetites and led to weight loss in human study subjects.

The drug, called taranabant, is now in the final stage of the three-phase FDA-approval process. Scientists have long known that THC, the main ingredient in pot, stimulates the appetite, a phenomenon colloquially known as "the munchies."

and im going to stress again so this doesnt get abused

!!!!-this is isn't a topic for discussing who takes it and your opinions on people taking it, keep that talk  for somewhere other than simtropolis

Very interesting studies. I agree with Barbarossa on the prohibition of pot. We should always try to keep an open mind on all kinds of drugs, especially if it's for medical advancement.

I am in full agreement with you.

There are 'legitimate' drugs that are so toxic, one teaspoon will kill an adult. THC itself (not the hazardous byproducts of combustion) is far less dangerous than over-the-counter cold medicine.

I'm speaking in medical toxicity terms, not the danger of crashing the car on a 1 am run to Taco Bell, which can happen on cold medicine as well.

The therapeutic benefits of cannabis have been known for 5000 years, and wasn't even illegal here until the 1920's.

And if this isn't about people using it for whatever reason and opinions about same, then what is there left to reply to? Sure, it's likely going to see an inappropriate post or two. That's a given. Must be the cold medicine.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Of course the medical benifits of what ever cannabis has in it would be more effective as  pill.

So  Walgreens will not start selling dimebags, whatever those are. 38.gif

They've known about medical benefits of reefer for years and being able to find and prove even more doesn't surprise me in the least. It should be legal.

It's funny, the differences in culture, EasyBakes. On the east coast, you take your Marinol prescription to Walgreens, but on the west coast you take your doctor's note to the local boutique shoppes and get your dimebags or whatever they are.

Cocaine is Schedule II, meaning it is illegal for private use but can be used in medical settings (as a local anesthetic). Marijuana is Schedule I, meaning no use for anyone. There have been dozens of studies and real life cases where it has been proven to be very beneficial for medical uses. Marijuana becoming a Schedule II drug is an absolute no-brainer for anyone, but personally I'd like to see it legalized and treated like alcohol.

Personally I'm against legalizing marijuana just from my personal experiences with idiots who like to "get high" and "hit the bong" in highschool... the last thing we need is another excuse for people to screw up their lives.

But in medical use it's perfectly fine...

I agree, marihuana should be legal. From what I know, smoking small amounts of marihuana won't make you sick but abusing it, it will. Just like alcohol.
