It's funny, I was watching something on YouTube the other day and saw an ad at the bottom. I thought it was something that had been recorded by the person who uploaded the video. (It was something from TV, which is why I thought that.) I didn't realize that YouTube was putting up ads. Horrible!

The only thing I can hope for is that people will hate the ads so much that a new site like YouTube becomes popular and everybody uses that site instead. Having ads crawling across the bottom of a video is not something we should have to put up with!

Well its kind of fair. They give us this amazing selection of videos for free and in return, we have ads popping up which take about 3 seconds to close.

it's annoying, they have ads all over their pages attempting to brainwashing us into submission and then to ultimately buy their products...

Soon: 80% ads, 20% content... LOL

Ah, yes, the power of AdBlock. But even then, I've noticed these when using Safari or IE (not that I use IE regularly, of course!).

I remember this one website was so filled with annoying ads that large amounts of people left and the website had to reduce the amount of ads by nearly 50% to stop more people from leaving the website.

I make it a point not to buy products from companies that have annoying or aggressive ad campaigns.

As long as the people uploading those videos are getting a share of the profits it's allowable, though. You agree to it when you sign up.

Firstly: I very much doubt youtube is going to turn much of a profit any time soon. The bandwidth it takes to keep that site going is staggering.

Second: The people uploading the videos getting a share of the profits? The vast majority of youtube videos is, or at least uses, copyrighted stuff. For Youtube to start handing out money to people for uploading that stuff would suicidal.Might as well stand on Hollywood Boulevard with a sign that says: "Please sue us until we are bleeding from the eyeballs."

Actually, MegaVideo already has a feature whee you can have some of the revenue from ads on the page with your video kicked back to you. It's one of their "ten reasons to use MegaVideo instead of YouTube".

Of course MegaVideo/MegaUpload/MegaRotic has this thing where they cripple the site's functionality to you if you don't pay them to become a premium member. So they actually turn a fair profit and can afford to do that.

So that's actually one big reason to use YouTube instead of MegaVideo- it's free to sign up!

....not to mention that the idea of a site charging for premium membership when they don't really have anything exclusive or special to offer (it's all user uploads, none of the stuff is theirs) absolutely disgusts me. Corporate BS at it's finest.
