BAT Airplanes

I really want to mod my own planes for my CJ.  However, I cannot find a tutorial or any thread that teaches how to do such.  The only thing I really need help on is how to make the appropriate sized textures, and dimensions, and how to make wing/engine textures.  I've tried the Airport team, but it doesn't seem like its active anymore.  So, I made this thread.  Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction, please?

Well, it could have something to do with the fact that your post is unclear; although you seem to be leaning towards modding, BATing may also be your purpose.  I'm unsure whether or not the Airport Team is still active, but they said themselves that they're not the most talented BATers because they spent more time learning modding, so they usually rely on affilitates to make terminals etc.  Also, just like sub menus, natural disasters, etc., "airport modding is one of the last remaining mysteries of Sim City 4".  There is a team called the Aerospace Consortium (AT) that recently got fired up over on SC4Devotion.  Here is a link to their team room, where they'll be showcasing their discoveries and conundrums as they attempt to fix the poorly made Maxis airports into post modern ones.  If you decide to take on modding and become an expert by learning from one of them, they may consider having you on their team (but that's not really my knowledge).2.gif

Good luck! 10.gif

Thanks guys. Sorry if I was a bit unclear, but I PMed pilotdaryl, and he gave me some good advice. Its too bad about the airplane/airport mysteries, because that's one of my favorite parts.

search the STEX for Pascalli. I've made those.

As for modeling, make a long cylinder, and then make it a poly and work the vertices into the shape of a plane. THat's the simplest way.

Honestly I would suggest some complex surface modeling but that's not really a tutorial. That's a concept that you can learn instead of just doing a plane specific tutorial

oh, and about the textures, render from the sides of the plane and then make the textures referenced from the render in Photoshop.  Then delete the bottom layer (render) and use that as your texture

so then I'd planar map that sideways onto the fuselage, which is simpler than cyndrical.  I'd do the same sort of thing but top down for the wings
