Just Got Rush Hour

I have played the ''regular'' Sim city for a while now (years to be honest) and well this forum told me that all downloadable content needed Rush hour, so i obviously obeyed you all!!!

Anyway i want to ask some questions if thats ok?

I just created a new region, alot of mountains near the sides and rivers running through, it looks awesome to be honest 9.gif (Here is my first question, can you not use god mode on the region, without having to create every city apart and then reconcile it....)

The main question is, i really want some new stuff, like buildings, i can dowload them but what do i do with them then, put it in the plug in folder and thats it? Where do they appear in game??)

Also do these downloadable buildings have a purpose or are they just like landmarks sit there and be pretty??

Another question (last one i promise!!) The most annoying thing on SC4 in my eyes TRAFFIC are the commute times better, i heard there was some sort of patch STEX or BAT or something like that? Does that also go in the Plug-in folder?)

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my questions, im sorry im not very good at installing and patching stuff, i always seem to do the wrong thing and end up having to reinstall the game because it crashes after i do someting

Thank you!

Welcome to Simtropolis

You have made a wise choice getting rush hour as it opens alot,it gives you the ability

to create your own buildings with the bat(building architech tool & gmax & all the neat buildings on here are usable now that you have rush hour just get all the updates & your good to go & the u-drive mode is interesting in some ways.

Now to your questions:

Yes you must start a new city in order to use the god mode tools, once a region is made

your stuck, however you can create your own region outside the game, like with sc4

terraformer that can get tricky but it does allow more control over the region creation

that way.

You can also use a simple jpeg with usgs data aswell but that also can get tricky,

you can also make an image by hand(search the forums for more info on this & the above)

This thread here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=92805 may anwser your other questions,if you would like more info

feel free to ask.(The nam(network addon mod)mentioned in this thread i think can help

with commute times.I don't think there is an improvement with rush hour itself. The nam

adds new networks to the game plus adds to the current ones so it's a great download,

& yes it gets installed in the same plugins folder(My documents sim city 4 plugins)as pretty much everything else does.(full info on installing is written below after n_o_bodys message)

Also on your landmark question:most buildings are plopable(like a landmark) & some don't

have much if any benefit, but many include jobs, ect,& of course there are the landmark buildings which are just that.If you want buildings that show randomly(a growable)these are available & of course have job's,ect.

Each download is usually labled as to what it is(plopable,growable,3ds(gmax file,3ds model/sc4 model).Info is also usually given on what the building does,if it has jobs

or even other benefits aswell(if more info is needed again feel free to ask)

On your what do i do with downloads question:

Well you can use them for whatever the purpose they are for, some are for looks others

do stuff it depends what your looking to download & what you download.

Once in the plugins folder The files in game will appear on the proper menu or on the menu mentioned by the creator of the file(this is for plopables)growables will only show up once zoned land is placed & the building stage for it is reached, they will not be on the menus.

(Plopables can be selected off the menues & placed like a police station as an example)

You can find the BAT on the [main SC4 site]...but you can only download it if you've registered your product.  If that doesn't seem to work for you, check the link in [this thread], and you can download it along with many other files from the main Maxis site.  While you're in there, be sure to download the SC4update4BAT.exe, as well...that file will make it so that the nightlights for all custom buildings show up in game.

In order to use the BAT, you need the G-max program, which you can grab for free from [TurboSquid].

<Edit> The Euro Tileset refers to a set of buildings and lots that take on a European influence.  There are three others: '90's Houston, '40's New York and 1890's Chicago.  You can choose which ones you want to appear in your city, and you can somewhat choose how they will appear (all together, one at a time, etc.).

When you get to the BAT download at simcity.com, the link for gmax is no good.  Use the one that is pinned to the top oc this list titled "How to get gmax".  Remember that the BAT is a gmax game pack, so gmax must be installed and registered (and working) before you attempt to install the bat.

If you pop over to Bugs and Technical Issues you will find a pinned topic named "Plugin Maia" that is worth a read.  It will help you get organized.

For BAT tutorials, look in the Omnibus, especially for the one named "BAT Essentials".

EDIT:  For the NAM, just carefully run the installer.  The exe file will put the NAM in a folder in your plugins along with a lot more documentation.  For openers, use perfect path finding until you understand what this is all about.

I had it all written up on where to put the files then at the last minute
i took it out as i didn't think it was needed sorry about that.

Also on the nam i should have added it's a great thing just becareful it's
really for more experienced users but i think you can get it.

    (rewritten) Installation of downloads:
All downloads(mainly in the stex)should go into your my documents simcity
4 plugins folder(the files are in zip format & will need to be unzipped first you''ll
need winzip or another program for that)& they should be unzipped somewhere
else then move the files to that folder. Some files have an installer(like the nam)
use that to install the files & they will be placed in the correct location(like n_o_body
said above)if directions are given on any download to place them in the sim city 4
main plugins folder(where the game is installed)then you will need to place them there.Always follow any directions given.

3ds files(labled as gmax files)in there description have to be placed in the gmax scenes
folder once that is installed.(sc4 cannot use these directly)

3ds files that are indeed 3ds files not the above or the below will only open in gmax as an import or will open in any other modeling software(sc4 cannot use these directly)

3ds files as sc4 model files these are usable by the game so these go in the same plugins
folder as any normal download, you will need the lot editor & the plugin manager for these
to be used in game in most instances.

This can be confusing but you''ll get it & again search around the forums for more info
    or also(again)feel free to ask.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The lot editor can be gotten on the main site aswell as the bat(use masochists link
to get to the site). You may have this program already but you will need the update
for rush hour,if you have the lot editor(or once you install it)the updates on the Bat
    download page.

The Plugin manager is included with the Bat download, you may need the plugin manager
update get that on the same page as the Bat)

(these downloads require product registration aswell)

I would say they shouldn't give much if any problem but like with anything you never know.

The cul de sacs mod i use & it's good & the Nam aswell there are some bugs with it but

nothing that will irritate to much.

first of all thank you for the help.

I have 2more questions i want to download a new map which i have, put it in the region folder but it was just a plain region...

All i want really is a large region with a few large cities...But most of all i want one with a coast line.

Preferably one at the bottom and the rest just land, i want a few beach cities with the downtown at the centre of the coast...

Also if you download a map do you need any other files??

Secondly i CANNOT zone industrial using the CTRL key it doesnt do anything.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?
