40.gif

Hi all you fellow computer geeks!  (if I may...)  I have been playing Simcity since it's very first incarnation, and recently bought Simcity Deluxe as an early Christmas present to myself.

I'm running a MacBook Pro with 2gig ram and the Radeon x1600 gfx card.

I really enjoy this game, great time waster.  My problem is, sometimes it's freezing.  I can get out if I "Apple-Option-Esc", but lose my city since its last save point.  This is getting really irritating.  Is there a standard patch for this, or fix?  Lowering the resolution and detail may have helped a bit, but it still happens from time to time, especially when zooming or when the computer has to do a bit of rendering.

Also, is there an all in one download with lots of Mac compatible mods, or can someone just share their functional plug-in directory so I don't have to trial and error?  Please?  I'd love you forever for it!

Meow for now!

Pretty much all plug-ins will work. I have not found one that has not yet.

FYI, if you installed the Universal Update and install some buildings, like 2008 McDonalds, and the game freezes right after placing it, let us know. I found on my Intel mac that the update (intended to improve Intel game play) causes this.

How is your overall scrolling and such? Do you have any screen "artifacts" like dissolved cars and shoreline waves?

Also if you play a large city, 4 X 4, and play the game above the games max resolution you may get some terrain missing in region view. This is not fixable 15.gif

Go to Aspyr.com and download the Universal Update for SC4, that should fix most problems. When you launch it, hold down option to be able to play the game in a window, which allows you to easily multi-task.

As for plug-ins, check out the Mac Omnibus. There is a link there that will link you to Official EA/Maxis plug-ins that you can use for your Mac.

Just one thing, Night lighting does not work for most of the buildings on the STEX (simtropolis exchange, where you can download buildings ect. if you didn't know) This is except for the buildings that bwatterud has fixed. Search bwatterud on the ste and you should find them. Almost every other plug-in works.

Some plugins come as .exe files these need to be extracted by FileJuicer.

There is a patch for simcity 4 at aspyrs website here

And a recommended download for simcity is the NAM. This gives you more transit options.

Welcome to Simtropolis!

Hey, welcome fellow mac user. As hamish noted, some files do come as .exe installers. Just juice the file using that program and put the results in the plugins folder. That goes for all of your mods. As for the NAM, we have it harder as we have to install it manually. But, you should get the same result.

P.S. The instructions for installing the NAM should come with it.

Hi you guys, and thanks for your help. I now have no problems with freezing, but instead I'm having a problem with crashing "unexpectedly".. This doesn't seem to be a problem in lower resolutions, thankfully.

And yes, disappearing cars. Not sure what you mean about the waves though? Scrolling is generally smooth and gameplay speed is normal. Anything I can do about the auto-zoning when I hold the button down too long or whatever it is that I'm doing? Really annoying!!

Thanks for the advice, especially the option (windowed mode) and the NAM stuff is great.
