I really can not believe Fox actually aired this! What happened!?

When mainstream news sucks up their gut, and actually starts talking about something that the public might actually need to know about and change, i go crazy, and yet am still skeptical.

Something verrry fishy is going on around here. 22.gif

Hmm, some interesting stuff... I didn't know the Patriot Act was so.. well... 'restricting'...

I listened up untill he started ranting on about all that 'God given right' bull (2 mins in), since when did the US turn into a Theocracy? All in all, it does sound abit sensationalist, if freedom of speech was soooo limited, he wouldn't be able to say those things 21.gif

Well, he's got a point there.  The stuff he was talking about is what's known as "privileged conversation" that the government can't force a person in that situation to testify, regardless of whether or not it means they'd get convicted.  Let's just say that OJ told Cochrane that he had killed Nicole.  Cochrane couldn't be forced to testify against OJ.

I wouldn't say "restricting". I would say "disgusting". The Patriot Act is something I wish was never created and I hope some political party, whoever that may be, repels it.

As an outside observer, I believe your Patriot Act is no more or less than a lettre de cachet.  It make it open season for the so-called "law enforcement cadre" to commit atrocities of the first magnitude.

Wake up! America.  You are too complacent.  This is the way police states are made.

We know this.  Why do you think Democrats now control the Congress?  There's almost no way that a Republican is going to win the Presidency, and even if he does, it's a good chance that he's going to have to be radically different from Bush.

I don't know too much about American politics, but if this guy is right about your constitution, then, in order to protect your freedoms, you should do everything in your power to deny the Patriot Act. According to this report, I think your government is not even allowed under your constitution to even enforce this act, let alone make it. If this thing passes, you will lose a part of your constitution, a part of your history, a part of your "God-given" freedom.

You're correct about that.  The Patriot Act is a violation of the US Constitution in the ways he was explaining.

Then how did it pass in first place? You'd think the people who got to read the Act before hand, the politians who run the US, would have noticed that this violates the constitution and rejected it, or at least have had it re-written. Maybe it was just the paranoia after 9/11 that made it pass... paranoia breeds incompetence it seems.

Basically, yes, that was it. As dumb as it sounds, during that time, almost anything with the word "patriot" was almost automatically embraced. It also did not help that both the president and congress were lead by the same party - when one party controls so much of our government, almost any half-baked idea will pass through (this has proven true when the Democrats controlled both the presidency and congress).

The beginning of the fall of the Roman Empire, eh? Yeah.

That's pretty much what happened. People on both the Democractic and Republican side don't like it... I can't thnk of a single person who likes it except the federal government. However, after 9/11, we were so pissed at the terrorists, that we were willing to do anything for payback. The act is supposed to die soon, isn't it? Or did Bush and Congress keep it for another amount of certain years?

Meh. Bush will pull a Palpitene soon. If this bill passes (again):

He will get his term extended, get more power, and form a galactic oppressive empire. You will see!

That is the way you are headed if your government controls you.  To quote from V:

I'm not worried about Bush, I'm worried about Clinton. If she gets into office, she may try to please the dying needs of her radical feminist bretheren. (Or sisteren?) Who knows, one day guys may be second class citizens.

It doesn't really matter, does it?

So can I or can't I call terrorists? (not that I would really want to or anything)

There is nothing stopping congress from passing an unconstitutional law. Never was. What has to happen is it needs to be challenged, and the supreme court needs to rule it unconstitutional.

...of course, that's how it's supposed to work, not how it does work. Nowadays the supreme court seems to make decisions based on the justices' personal opinions more than anything else. They don't consult the constitution for an answer, they come up with an answer and then look for some sort of weird excuse in the constitution to justify it. Which basically means we might as well not have a constitution anymore, the supreme court performs that function instead. And that's just wrong.

^^^ lmao, yeah, sure. Right after Al Sharpton goes "MJ" and gets skin-lightening surgery.

I think Faux news is trying to appear "fair and balanced" with this story.... just like Bill O'Reilly said like, once that he thinks Global Warming might be true.
