I need to check that actually - I thought I downloaded a patch that solved that problem, but had problems registering the game with EA.

Yeah, the texturing will need some work to be fair. I'm using textures from simcities.com (excellent range of textures there - the website will be both referenced in the release notes, and i'll be uploading the models to there along with here and SC4 Devotion), so there are inconsistencies between the edges of the tiles which need to be minimised, otherwise unsightly gridding patterns will appear.

I will be producing the models first, and fine-tuning them later, when they have all been constructed.

    (Sorry for the multiple posting)

Your gonna have to get permission to upload on the LEX.

Anyways-I hope this project keeps on going 4.gif

Is the LEX the exchange at SC4 Devotion?

EDIT: Yeah, there should be - theres loads of models planned. My overall aim with this project is to provide many styles of council houses for use in UK cities - there seems to be a bit of a deficiency and i'm hoping to fill that.

There are a few phases planned. It may slow a little though, as i'm soon to start a new job, so will have a bit less free time.

The LEX is the exchange at simcity4devotion. But before you are allowed to upload anything you have to be accepted by the "Elite of content making" first or you may not upload there at all. I advice you to stick to the STEX here or the SCEX at www.simcities.com, our own BLaM exchange.

zwabberaar-why?whats so bad about the exchange at devotion? Thats where the best people upload there stuff, so, if he were really serious about making some good BATs, he would want to upload to the LEX.

clubber, do try and upload to the LEX but only once you are sure that you have finished for good. If you go on there you willl notice that they have probably some of the best BATters around. If you post here first though I will happily download!19.gif

These are by no means complete - the texturing needs serious work, and there will inevitably be minor adjustments made to the models. This is my first real project (though have modelled a few houses before, and the Gatecrasher One nightclub - in memory of the club, which burnt down this summer), so really only getting familiar with the software.

I only suggested the LEX, as I have downloaded content from there before.

    I've got some new models...

The dark brown - purple block of flats is called Holbeck, and the lighter colour one is called Wordsworth. They are essentially both the same model, with different texturing.

    Comments / Criticism welcomed...

You have a very good start here. What I will say is that the models are pretty good, but I quite dislike how the textures tile, that's one thing that really needs sorting out imo. Also check the scale with the ingame buildings. 4.gif

just so you know, you can show us preview renders from in gmax, it will save you alot more time then exporting, putting it in game, getting a picture, then doing that all over again.

These look pretty good, my only concern aside from textures is the dimensions. They look very thin. I would use the measurement tool in google earth and check some townhouse measurements and see how they compare to yours.

These are actually slightly larger than the correct size (modelled from floorplans and estate agent information), but I think they are too small in height. gmax seems to compress the models in the height axis a bit, so i've had to scale them to account for this. All the lots shown are 2x2 lots. I might increase the sizes a bit to see if that improves them.

Is there an easier way to copy and paste the renders of the model from gmax? I'm currently using the print screen method.

JAYO: i'll think about it. I find the lot editor to be a bit of a pain tbh (though haven't used it much to be fair) as it seems far too restrictive to obtain the effects i'd like, so its a possibility. I'll have to get back to you when i've finished more models.

Thats what I thought. So what are your lotting skills like? I have to say I prefer the modelling, but haven't really got my head around the lot editor yet.

I'll have to check that out a little later. I'm thinking of starting a city, in a hybrid northern european style. Its an experimental city to see how well I can replicate a northern european city. I've also started the 5th model, Yardley, which i'll be continuing later tonight.

I've done a little work on the textures, and have begun to reduce the grid-like effect on some of the models.

The buildings all still look a little bright. Does anyone know how to reduce the colour saturation from within gmax?

They will be coming sometime soon. I'm working on the Yardley model now, the model is about 40% complete. I'll get a render of the model on here when i've finished the first draft.
