    Update 3: Mal Zeth

For my 99th post on Simtropolis (bit of a lurker, I know) I will be showcasing Mal Zeth, a city that started out trying to be Dubai-like, but didn't turn out the way I'd planned. It is, however, one of my favorite cities in Normandy and at the time I made I was really happy with myself, so I hope you enjoy 4.gif

Mal Zeth was until the 1990's a small city with few high rise buildings. In the1970's and 80's the Norman government decided to develop some more city centre areas as it was felt Staunton Island and Portlant would soon start to reach feasible capacity. Special tax incentives were offered to companies who set up in Mal Zeth and the city started to boom economically.

    MalZeth-23Sep-6.png
First up is Mal Zeth City Hall. Don't be fooled by it's classic look, it's actually fairly new, state-of-the-art facility.

    MalZeth-23Sep-7.png

Memorial Park sits opposite City Hall and is home to the National War Memorial.

    MalZeth-23Sep-15.png

    MalZeth-23Sep-16.png

Behind the park is one of the largest commercial and residential developments in Normandy's history, Pinnacle Park. The tallest of these towers is the Pinnacle which will be Normandy's, and probably the world's tallest building on completion.

    MalZeth-23Sep-14.png

Another construction project includes the Four Seasons Hotel Towers, a five star luxury hotel.

    MalZeth-23Sep-11.png

The NorCom Towers are expected to be the second tallest towers in the city upon completion and although named for one company, will be home to many. On the left side you can also see CNBC Europe's Headquarters.

    MalZeth-23Sep-12.png

Mal Zeth Town Centre is one of Normandy's largest shopping centres and most of it predates the boom (although these parts have been refurbished.

There are many other notable buildings in the city, so the next few will just have pictures.

    Update 4: Election 2007

It's that time again in Normandy, the 2007 Parliamentary Elections. The public went to the polls on Thursday November 29th 2007 with an 89% turnout.

    NeckandNeckcopy.jpg

As of Saturday the two leading parties were neck and neck, but most polls believe the current Labour/Norman Republican Party government is expected to come out on top.

Things, however, didn't go as predicted and the opposition leading Green Party got the higest number of seats with 81. After week long negotiations a government was formed between the Greens, Socialist Party and Progressive Democrats, with Labour leading the opposition.

    GreensWin.jpg

    ShareofParliament-1.jpg

Over the following two weeks the Green Party leader Katherine McCormick was elected Prime Minister and the cabinet was formed with Socialist Party Leader William Heathton as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health.

With this new far left, Green run coalition, what change will come to Normandy.

Sorry for such a short update, I may have another tomorrow but I'm not sure. My monitor is broken so I can only play SC on the week end using my Dad's computer, should be getting a monitor for Christmas though.

    Thanks for reading,

    Craig

    NormandyBanner-Replies.jpg
Thanks to everyone's kind comments. I'm not writing replies to each comment because a lot of them are just compliments (a good thing), only ones I actually have a reply to, so please don't think I'm being rude 1.gif Oh, and sorry about the one short update last weekend, I hope to be able to play SimCity a lot more this week.

OffTopic: Not a fan of the Green's? I think the world needs some Green governments.

2nerdy4u: I got it off Wikipedia. It's of the Scottish Parliament, I just doubled and flipped it to make it a full circle then changed the colours.

    Mets_Fan41:

I wondered if anybody would realise the map was originally of Liberty City (thanks to the STEX uploader). I changed it quite a bit though. And as for the abandoned buildings, I think that's the high demand mod gone crazy.

    Update 5: Riva

    Brought to you by

    DeptofEnvoironment2.jpg

    Riva-1Apr-1.png

Riva is a park on a mainland peninsula, east of Staunton Island. It is home to several landmarks including the National Planetarium of Normandy and Chateau de Normandie, a former Summer residence of the British Royals. There is also one of the tallest Papal crosses in the world, directly down the road from St. Patrick's Cathedral. There is also Temple Stadium, home of the Rivan Warriors football team.

    1.jpg2.jpg

    3.jpg

    5.jpg

    4.jpg

There is an 11th century castle in the park which was the seat of a local lord. All of the castle walls were destroyed but the main building is in excellent condition.

    Riva-1Apr.png

St. Patrick's Cathedral dates from 1423 and is one of the most architecturally stunning buildings in the world. It is also the seat of the Archbishop of Riva.

Hope you enjoyed the update, I should have more over the weekend.

    Thanks for reading,

    Craig

    I recognise those names... 3.gif

A David Eddings fan, by any chance? (...or at least someone who's read his books)

In any case, nice pics, but reduce the file size. They're causing the page to take ages to load... 2MB per pic... Perhaps you could use something like IrfanView to resize your pics and convert them to jpg? It's a good idea this was caught early, because if this CJ was like, say, 20 or 30 pages, it'd be difficult to replace the pics. 3.gif

    Keep up the good work.

Shadow_Assassin: I'm reading David Eddings at the moment (the Mallorean) and liked the names. I didn't realize the size of the pics, I was wondering why the pages were loading so slowly, I'll have a look into it.
