A few questions...

1. One thing I felt SC4 lacked was the timeline... no longer could you see your city change over time. Do we have the capability to start a city in a particular time period, like say the 1900's, 1950's, or 2000's?

2. I hear custom maps are possible... is this true? If so, how are they done?

3. Can you make a greyscale (like in SC4) map and import it?

4. Does SCS have a good terraforming tool to use when starting a new city?

Thanks in advance!

1. No... although some buildings do look older than others and there seems to be Model T Fords and horse drawn carts riding around the lesser developed/wealthy areas. You can always imagine.

2. Its done through importing Greyscale maps into the game, haven't done it personally since it just seems too much like hassle.

3. As above...

5. Nope, it doesn't... a major let down.

Hi guys im new here but i also have both SC4 and SCS, now SCS is something completely different but still fun, except for the fact that i have this runtime error crash that they need to fix. Now this game is highly moddable and already i changed the map size to twice the normal size for larger cities to be possible, you do need a strong pc.

As for the greyscale it's easy, just make a greyscale map and save as .tga file with the size 256x256 using 256 color palette.

Put the file into the heightmaps folder in your scs folder and there ya go.

Dont forget you can increase the size of the map you play on as well. Digging around the .xmls I found the random map settings and upped them to 700 something. Its sooo nice to have a map with more then one city. I wouldnt recommend much bigger then 512 if you have less then 2gigs of ram though. When you put two cities on that big of a map it killlls yer system good.

But aren't the effects of a lot of the stuff like "city type" due to energy levels Global for a city map?

That would mostly eliminate the possibility of ever having more than one city on a map, except possibly in the mind of the player if it was true.

Well, not totally true, they can still be physically separate as long as they're small, but they were in Simcity4 as well.
