Road Network Bug When Laying Highway?

I just added a highway network to a medium city tile with a current pop of about 75,000.  After I finished my construction and took the simulator off pause I got a large number of no road zots in several groups scattered across the map.  As I zoomed in on each group of zots I noticed that the road network had missing road tiles, sometimes on a straight stretch of road, sometimes on intersections.

As I went about repairing the missing road I found that the road is really still there, it's just invisible and no cars can travel on it.  I know this because I found that if I repaired even a single tile the entire missing section would snap back  into view.

I checked my transportation funding, all areas are at recommended levels or a tad higher.

This is really odd, and I don't remember ever seeing it before.  Any ideas what might be the cause?  (I do have the latest, Jun-07 NAM)

NAM sometimes mess up the game, I would uninstall it( make sure to remove any thing in your city that was added by NAM), then run the game again and see if the problem occurs again. If the problem goes away, the NAM is bad, if you really want the NAM, when you redownload it, change the installing a little. If it didn't go away, your game is messed up and you should reinstall the game and if that fails, conact the techncail support( I would put that as a second last resort because sometime, the techncail support person may not be very reliable).

Hehe.. well I understand you have problems.. but be clear.. the problems are YOURS.. 2.gif

There are probably 50000 people at LEAST running the NAM successfully (and GRATEFULLY I might add). If you think it's "bad" you may want to look in the mirror.

And of course if you don't want to run it, removing it is VERY simple.. can we say "uninstall.exe"? Sure we can.. 2.gif

This is a very common symptom of the traffic simulator re-balancing... whether you have the NAM in or not. If you have significant traffic and make a major change, the game goes into a scramble trying to recalculate all the start/end trip information for the city (and connections too as far as that goes) Assuming you still have the roads in the proper spot relative to the lot zones, it will balance out after a few weeks or months of game simulation. Nothing to be alarmed about, even though it kind of takes you by surprise at first.

I had this problem too, related to the NAM (I believe) because it didn't happen until after I used the NAM. It didn't seem to cause any harm, and I just relaid the road over the area and everything was ok. It seems to happen in bunches.

I had this problem several times. It always occured, after I reinstalled NAM with different options (e.g. forgot to check the turning lanes). I think the only solution is, to manually rebuild the missing roads.

Interesting!  As a matter of fact, I reinstalled NAM just this morning to pick up an option I had somehow missed.

tungston:  The strange thing is, many of the interrupted road networks were all the way across the map from where I layed my highways.

And I ended up doing just what others have mentioned, re-layed roads.  No problems since then so I guess it is a small (if annoying) price to pay for all the benefits of NAM.  (if that really is the cause 2.gif )

That's good John, I'm glad it wasn't serious. I had something like that a couple of years ago, so long I don't remember if I knew what caused it. It wasn't NAM though, it was before NAM.
