Radical Ordinance and Effect on Game

I seem to get really turned off by simcity all too often because after a certain point, like many people here, my cities just stop growing.  I use the Radical Ordinance () to help my cities grow and I don't have to worry about placing 100s of fire stations and police stations, etc.

Now, I suppose my questions is what effect this really has on the game?  I always click "force mass transit (or whatever it's call) and rarely do the sims use mass transit...I have to force them to by not connecting roads, blocking traffic, etc.

Also, does this type of ordinance hinder BIG development?  When building cities, unless I have a skyscrapercity, I find it extremely difficult to build past 150k or 200k people.  Even though there are tons of jobs, and jobs matching wealth levels, and tons of transportation options zones don't develop and/or go abandoned from "commute time" or with commercial zones "abandoned due to desirability".

Now, I have been playing this game a for a long while.  I have lots of bus stations, rail, el, highways, school, tons of parks, hospitals, neighboring cities, etc.  I have all of what is needed for a city to grow...at least all of what is most often suggested here at the site.  But they never grow.  100k people and zones just lay dormant and commercial offices go black.  Does anyone think that this plugin (radical ordinance) affects the game like this?  I'm going to try playing without it to see...but it's really frustrating when I just want to build a city and I cannot even develop 1/2 of a large map.  Any advice?  Thanks.

Transit stations such as bus and/or depots have to be strategically placed for them to work properly...

Imagine these are your zones.

I have mine positioned like this : INDUSTRIAL ( bus ) ( bus ) COMMERCIAL ( bus ) ( bus ) RESIDENTIAL

Also to help with your growth DO NOT by any means connect more than any one type of road, highway, power, water to any givin neighbor. If you do. your demand will cap out at a lower stat. I promise you friend....It does work doing it that way. 4.gif

KingTitan,

If I have excess connections between 2 cities and I remove them at some point so I have no more than 1 of each type, will this also remove the cap, or once established, will the cap remain forever?

Sorry about the double post, but I am still looking for an answer to this question:

If I have a city with multiple connections of the same type to another city, it is my understanding that I will have a population cap imposed.  If I then delete one of the connections, will the cap be lifted?  Or, once capeed is it impossible to change?

Thanks!

I think you and King Titan have this backwards. The game has population caps already set in when you start, things like parks, rewards, and neighbor connections alleviate those caps, so the more neighbor connections you have, the higher your cap, to a point, as the amount of cap relief each connection you get decreases with each neighbor connection of that type, i.e. after connecting five roads to one neighbor each additional road connection will alleviate less of the cap.
But, there is a catch with neighbor connections, where if you have four cities connected near a corner you risk getting an infinite commute loop where the number of commuters increase each time you play one of those cities. If these happens it can really screw up you growth.
Hope that helps!
