Downloadable city!

I have seen many a topic requesting a "downloadable city"...that is a city that has been already built up to some extent.  I find this idea very useful, because some people like to manage cities rather than build them...or perhaps get some good ideas that cannot be shown via pictures.  Regardless...I want to share one of the regions I am working on right now.  I am INCLUDING my plugins folder so there are no problems.  Please make a backup of your own plugins folder and use mine instead when playing my region so everything (hopefully) works correctly.  I am hosting these files remotely so as not to burden the server at ST.  All downloads are free and unlimited.  Enjoy...and I am sure that there will be some problems, just post here and try to work it out.

Do you have the permission of the various custom content makers to include their work? This is not generally allowed and discouraged by the community.

Hmmm. I have seen BLaM content in at least one of your uploads. You do not have permission to upload content from BLaM members anywhere without prior consent. I demand you take this down immediatley!

Please, first off, DO NOT, in any way, take this as an attack... I am merely trying to understand why...

It doesn't really make sense to me that these files are uploaded on a public database for anyone to download, but you guys don't want them posted here. It's not like he's claiming your BATs as his work or anything. Ya know? All he's doing is trying to ensure the functionality of this city...

Again, this is not an attack, I just don't completely understand why this is such a big deal...

i agree psycho_teddy! absolutley. Blam isn't even that good of quality, not like it's NDEX or Simgoober. i personally wouldn't see anything wrong with the uploading as long as u give credit where its due.

I have a CJ, now because i used a NHP map, does that mean i need there permission to use the map in this supposed CJ? NO! but as long as credit is given where it is due, it's fine!

Everyone may upload a city with custom content, as the city file itself doesn't contain copyrighted material, but only references to where the content may be found. The problem are the plugins packs he has uploaded. Most, if not all, creators demand that custom content is linked to.

But as long as everyone is sticking to themself, we'll just have to download each and every builidng alone. Some have managed to create "mega-packs" for some of the dreaded dependencies -- why not bundle related content in "mega-packs"?

This can be avoided by having a city with no custom content. Then people could add what they have later. The list of needed downloads for a mostly custom content city like what you show is prohibitive for most people because everyone downloads different things. And it will avoid the thorny issue of permission.

It is plain and simple. When you download custom content you agree with the user license. That EULA says you may not re-distribute the files. End of story. Take those files off.

This by far is 100%  Plagiarism....... As BLaM Team Boss I can not recommend this as since some of my team members works are included in this Download and this is a breach of Simtrop and many custom contents creators "end user" aggreaments...  Which states that the end user will not redistribute the said download with out directing to the original download, hence why in a download there are the thing called Dependecies.... I ask for a Mod or Admin interference on this now!!!!

I like your idea of sharing a city but I agree with Fledgeling, don't use any custom content and then there will not be any issue with the EULA and you won't have to provide a plugin folder. Your second option would be to provide links to all the custom content so they can download it themselves which stays within the EULA but that could be a long list depending on how many files are in your plugin folder.

It's a good idea and could help some new members to design a successful city but you should have gotten permission before uploading this. I don't think you're at all plagiarizing but like Barby said, it is commonly discouraged from the community. I think a better idea would have been to make a city without any custom content and upload it. Then there wouldn't be any problems with the EULA license or with other members. Believe me, you can design a nice city with just Maxis content.

While this is indeed a good idea, a better idea would be to get permission by the creators of the buildings, props, mods and whatnot - as well as listing the dependencies - on the site before uploading them.

Until this is done, I will lock this thread.
