Well Im in the middle of it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7085394.stm

I live less than a quater of a mile from the river and a metre below sea level.

There is a severe flood warning on my house. Which means "risk to life and property"

Ive spent the last 2 and a half hours collecting sandbags and I am now sat at home waiting for the flood to come and m also trying to move as much stuff upstairs as possible.

This is quite frightening.

A massive tidal surge is working its way up the coast and its coming here.

I would be terrefied, and crying quite alot, in your situation Adam. It's a mark of just how awesomely mature you are that you can be so calm about this.

I really hope the damage is minial, that the disruption wont be too great, and you can get on with your lives as fast as possible.

I've just seen this on the BBC, was so very surprised. I read they are also closing the Thames Barrier and have evacuated over 200 from the east coast, very very scary indeed.

Would also seem that Rotterdam are closing the port and closing the storm/flood barriers.

Can't they afford to make walls or embankments? Does it normally flood?

Gingerblokey is just worried about his home. And we built our cities where they are for good reasons.

Edit: Considering Portsmouths location and lack of ground elevation (the highest point on the island is a bridge over the railway, and the railway is below sea level), i am concerned with the increase in Flooding, Portsmouth gets a lot of it.

I just seen it on the news a while ago - has the flood started? I thought it was quite surprising and scary, I mean a "massive storm surge" heading towards Britain...strong winds and peak high tides rising the sea level by 3 metres. Hope you hang in there.

I live in Manchester so I never experienced a flood here.

Yeah I wonder how everything is doing over there. I looked it up on BBC and they have this article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7086175.stm

It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, although there is still flooding in some areas. They miscalculated the surge too, based on the article.
