Airbus A380 completes maiden voyage

The largest plane in the world completed its first flight in commercial service for Singapore Airlines.

Doesn't it seem kind of weird that the first commercial flight would be for Singapore Airlines. I thought it would be like Virgin Atlantic or something.

Hm, I hope numerous other airlines start using it. Singapore Airlines, huh? I thought it would be something big like Continental or British Airways. Who would have thought?

topcliff: Singapore Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world. Continental hasnt ordered any... Actually i cant remember any American airline thaty has ordered them

I'm not sure about this, but I think that VA backed out of most of their order.

the only american based Airlines to order them are Freight based UPS and I think they've even scaled down their order not too mention Continental isn't exactally one of the bigger guns of American Airlines thier largest Airplane in Fleet is the 767 so I wouldn't see them as a candidate for the A380 the ones I'd see buying the A380 would be United to relace thier 747's American is using the 777 and Northwest is in too much trouble finacially to make the jump to the super jumbo

and I think once it hits the market with more airlines we'll see more order them in the States there are only 2 Airports that are being retrofitted(or already have been) to handle the A380 JFK and Hartsfield in Atlanta so getting to see it fly from the US is almost as hard as it was to see the concorde they have been talking about upgrading LAX and DFW but otherwise thats it and no talk of any up in Canada either

I believe Airbus is a European company, so naturally, American airliners would prefer Boeing. That's just what I think, based on that little information I have. I could be totally wrong.

And that plane is a monster. I need to fly in one of those things at some point.

And Airbus cancelled the freight version of the A380 so most freight US based airlines went with the 777-300ERF. Also dont forget FedEx also ordered them

whoops did I say american I meant Continental's largest in fleet I knew AA was flying the 777 and actually I meant American Airlines as in refrence to Continental being an American Airline "not too mention Continental isn't exactally one of the bigger guns of American Airlines "

I didn't know Airbus canceled the A380F as to FedEX I believe they pulled out of the A380F long before Airbus pulled out so thats probally why I forgot about them

2nerdy4u-actually Northwest uses Airbus aircraft (A320,A330) along with thier Bowing and McD aircraft, as does Air Canada(North American based I know not American) AC uses the A320,A321,A330,A340 as well as a fleet of Boeing aircraft

It'll be interesting to see the eventuall impact of the A380 and what the 787 Dreamliner will do when it hits service I hope the A380 doesn't become what the concorde became an unprofitable novelty flight
