Road Spacing and Zone Alignment

I just started playing Sim City 4 the other day and Ive been using the "Auto-Roads" feature throughtout most of my beginning play.

Recently, Ive become bored of that and wanted to go back and do it old school. (Building roads first, zoning second.)

My first question: Do the arrows in undevevloped zones always have to be pointing towards a road?

My reason asking this becuase I want to standardize the relative blocks in my city (i.e having all the plots having the same dimensions) and the arrows wont always line up for me.

This leads to my second question: What is the maximum ammount of spaces each R, C, and I can be away from a road? (exclude Ia)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.9.gif

Welcome to ST, and the forums Dagdamus.

The residential lots must have the arrow pointing to, and touching a street, road, or avenue. The commercial can, if you have the NAM, use the pedestrian malls in place of a road.

You can make solid blocks by holding the Ctrl key while dragging the zone. The Shift, and Alt keys can also be use to alternate the lot placement.

Hello there Dagdamus, and welcome to ST! To answer your first question, zones must ALWAYS point towards some form of automobile transit--streets, avenues, roads, and one way roads...but not highways--or else the dreaded "no car zot will appear". As for your second question, the maximum zone size for any RCI lot is 6x6, however...

if you hold the CTRL key while zoning you can zone larger sizes. This feature is practically worthless unless you download a lot that requires this (such as Simgoober's large shopping centers or the HKBATs on the STEX). Hope this helps, and enjoy your stay!
