Hi.

I have created a region,-a mix from 8 other different regions, witch you all probobly know. There are parts from Eaton,-maked by jhipolito,-Europe by fretz, and parts from New York,San Francisco,London,Berlin,Fairway and Timbuktu from the org. game1.gif.

I´m pretty proud of the region, because I have make it only with the default toys from the game4.gif,from creating a New Region, make a playable config.bmp file(10 big,24 medium cityes) in Paint, download and render Eaton and Europe(only 45 min for both on my PC23.gif),then open the different cityes, name them and move them to,-now Utopia, and then spending two days to make everything as pretty and playable as possible.

I don´t know if this have been done/showed before, but I really want to hear your opinion of the region, because I want to upload it on the STEX ,if ther´s an interrest, and if I find a way to do it.This might be a problem because I only have the config.bmp.If any one have an idea how to upload it,-please tell me here.

16/9

Hi again. The region are now allmost ready to download in STEX,I have got the TerraFormer working,so there should be no problem at all wit the upload.

Also an updated photo.

20/9.

Hmmm...,I have some stranges problem with the game, after I installed the Terraformer. For example,-every time I start the game, the ingame tutorialcitys are resetted!I have tested a lot with,-and without the Terraformer, but I really cant figure out what exatly cause that,-and other  problems(-I use many diff. mods...).I´m not sure what to do,because I have used the Terraformer to "clean up" and finish the region,-actually its ready to upload. But as long as I don´t know what to do,-you have to look at the photo only.

I don't think you can upload a rendered region to the STEX.  Somehow you need to make a grayscale.jpg for the region.  Maybe that can be done with SC4Terraformer, I just don't know.

Hmm..,yes that was what I thought, but I have serious problem to install/open the SC4Terraformer,either due to my age,-49 lol4.gif,or because of that DLL file problem. My biggest problem is that I´m not grown up with computer. My first pocket calculator could just fit in my schoolback, heehh4.gif.

I know what you mean, though I am not giving out my age. 20.gif

You might PM Vandy, he does a lot of work with the terraformer, and is quite knowledgeable about maps.

This is quite an interesting concept you've described above.  I'm quite interested in how you've accomplished it.  As a matter of fact, I believe it might be a wonderful article to write and include in the OmniMaps section of the Simtropolis Omnibus.  Please PM me concerning this and let's see if we could collaborate on the article.

As to your question, since it appears you already have a rendered SC4 region, I would most definitely suggest you install SC4Terraformer in order to take the first steps in getting this region ready for upload to the STEX.  Read the "Downloading SC4TF and saving it to a Computer" section of the Using SC4Terraformer without SimCity 4 article for instructions on how to install SC4Terraformer.

The version of SC4Terraformer that is in the Modds and Downloads section is Version 1.0c.  There is a newer version available.  It is SC4Terraformer, Version 1.1 and can be downloaded by clicking on the link.  Be sure you read all of the information concerning required files.

Now, once you've gotten SC4Terraformer installed, let's discuss how to get the region ready for  upload.  Please note that I'm writing these instructions somewhat "off-the-cuff" as I don't have SC4 or SC4Terraformer installed on the computer I'm currently using.

WARNING!  Please back up your original region before performing the below steps.

    1)  Launch the SC4Terraformer application

    2)  When asked to open a region, navigate to the folder where you have your rendered region saved.

    3)  Once you've opened the region, it will be displayed in SC4Terrafomer's Main Window.

NOTE:  It might look somewhat "chunky" or "blocky" as it is an 8-bit representation of the region.

    4)  "Clean up" the map as desired by smoothy out any blockiness as well as performing any additional terraforming desired.

    5)  Save the Region.

    6)  When you open SimCity 4, you will need to enter each city in order to "re-render" it to see the changes in SC4 colors rather than SC4Terraformer colors.

    7)  Once you've re-rendered the map and are satisfied with the results, open SC4Terrafomer and then open the region.

    8)  In the SC4Terraformer toolbar, click on the Global Tools drop down arrow.

    9)  Click on the Export (SC4M/16bit png) button.

    10)  Navigate to where you wish to save the file, enter a filename and use SC4 Terrain files (*/SC4M) as your file type.

    11)  Click the Open button.

    12)  If you wish to associate an HTML file with the SC4M file, do so.  Otherwise, click Cancel.

    13)  A "Export done" dialgog box will appear.  Click the OK button.

    14)  Close SC4Terraformer.

    15)  You now have a .SC4M file of your rendered region.

You'll be able to take the .SC4M file, the config.bmp file and put together a zipped upload package for the STEX.  Be sure you include some type of Read me file and an image or two of the rendered region with the main image being a SC4 render of the region.

I hope this information will be helpful to you and I look forward to chatting with you about colaborating on an article on your interesting mapping concept.

    Regards,

    Vandy

    Hmmm..-"MikaDril"....

Anyway, yesterday I finally get that SC4TerraFormer installed and it looks like its running ok,and with these instruction you gave me here,I also have a chance to figure out how to use it.

Vandy,I still have a little problems with the language and terms been used in here,so when you say "PM me..",I really dont know what to do42.gif,heehh...Do you want me to write an article of how I did it?

I have a comment to that Tutorial "Using SC4Terraformer without SimCity4".

Why do I have to install it on a different computer?I have installed the 1.1 version in my Documents/SimCity4/Plugin,and can open and run the Terraformer from my Desk.I find the Tutorial confusing if ther´s no need to use another PC too,(but off course,-I still have to learn to use it,perhaps ther´ll be some problems there..).I just found the missing dll files (2 in my case),on others locations on my PC,and copied them to my Primary Drive( I have C:/,and I:/ and found both missing dll files on C:/).Also I try to play the game with the Terraformer installed together with the rest of my plugins, and ther´s no problem at all.

It could be nice if you update the Tutorial to "how to use version 1.1"2.gif.

Ok,thats all for now.Txn for your interrest in my little project and for your informations, now I´m gonna see if I can make the Region downloadble on the STEX.

    Have a nice day.

I do apologize for any problems I've caused with my casual use of the English language.  Sometimes it is very easy to forget that some of the people I chat with do not use English as their first language.

As you have already learned, "PM" means private message which is saying to send me a private message to my Vandy account on Simtropolis.

As to the article, I believe it would a very useful addition to Omnimaps and I am suggesting that you and work together in producing the article.  I will be sending you an invitation to a private topic in order for you and I to be able to work together on creating this article.

I have a comment to that Tutorial "Using SC4Terraformer without SimCity4".

Again, my apologies for my casual explanation.  When I suggested you read the first section of the Using Sc4Terraformer without SimCity 4 article, my intent was not for you to read through the entire article to get an answer to your quesiton on how to install SC4Terraformer.  Rather, I wanted you to only read the section entitled "Downloading SC4TF and saving it ot a Computer".  That is the only section you would need in order to get instructions on how to install SC4Terraformer.

The rest of the article describes how you could use the SC4Terraformer application on a computer that DOES NOT have SC4 intalled on it.  I have multiple computers at home that I use and do not want to install SimCity 4 on each one of them.  However, I do wish to creat maps on the other computers.  Consequently, I install SC4Terraformer and only use the application WITHOUT using SimCity 4.  That is why I wrote the article so that other people could learn how to do what I do.

It could be nice if you update the Tutorial to "how to use version 1.1"quote>

Actually, the article is "generic" -- that is, it is not specific to any version of SC4Terraformer.  Unless wouanagaine releases a future version of SC4Terraformer that changes the way it is installed, the installation instructions will be valid for each version.  Of course, it is very important that you read ALL of the information that comes with the application and BE SURE you have all of the required files and the versions required to successfully run the application.

Ok,thats all for now.Txn for your interrest in my little project and for your informations, now I´m gonna see if I can make the Region downloadble on the STEX.

Mikadri, it is my pleasure to be able to help you with your questions and I do look foward to chatting with you in our private thread about our writing this article together.

1.gifHi.I have now finised and tested my little "mix of regions" a coupple of days.As I have told before,I have had some diff. problems with my PC when I installed the SC4Terraformer and some other programs/files.

These problems are now solved, and I have absolut no problems with the game now, either I play the region both with and without the Terraformer installed.(It seems it´s the user of the programs, = me...4.gif,-and NOT the programs who cause problems....

Now,-for a finally testing,-I´m looking for a coupple of people, who are interested in playing the region, and see if everything are working, before I upload it here on STEX.

Just PM me here and give me your mail adress, and I send you the region,-if it´s possible some how,-the file are about 19MB uncompressed42.gif.

I have received your e-mail and have read your post in our Private Thread.  Please give me a little time to write you a reply.  It is NOT necessary to convert your region to a grayscale image.  Such an image would only be 8-bit and you would lose much of the detail made available when you used the SC4Terraformer application.

I shall get you a reply as soon as I can.
