Copyright issues?

Lately I've been using a completely legal software called game cam to make videos while I play SC4.  I also use Windows Movie Maker to edit the film (i.e. add songs and transitions).  Just a question; I was planning on making some good ones and uploading them online but was wondering...

would there be any copyright issues with this?  Yes, I use custom music, yes I use custom content.  I know making my own "home movies" on my PC should be perfectly legal, but if it's illegal to upload to the internet I won't even give it a second thought.  I'm only 14 and just started high-school so I don't need to be sued by a giant like EA or Microsoft.

I doubt it would be. Aslong as your not making money off it, I'm no legal expert though. You should probaly get a second opinion.

From the sound of things, I really don't see any difference between this and posting still photos of cities online. Basically, the only difference really here is between still and moving pictures. And a quick peek around ST will show that others have posted movies of their cities before, just not precisely in the format that you are describing.

Thanks for your insight, Zelgadis and Crazyyaya.  I uploaded the vid to Youtube, and it can be found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVpF4h3dgmQ.  If you find anything wrong copyright wise I'll get rid of it in a heart beat.  Thanks again!

    Yoshi,

That is an excellent beginning.  If anyone was going to complain about this issue, I would have caught hell over my signature long before this.  Look closely at it, and you'll see it is an animation of a section of one of my cities.  The frames all came from the game.

As long as you don't make money on it, you are quite safe.

EDIT:  Do you know about the recorder feature of the game?  You can pull frame sets as needed.

I was trying to get the recorder feature to work, but I didn't know Windows Movie Maker was present at the time on my machine (it comes with Windows XP I think, but there weren't any shortcuts I saw).  I'm glad you like the beginning!  I means a whole lot coming from someone like you!48.gif
