Disk 2 has to be in the drive while you are playing.  Since you really can't run anything else when the game is on, I don't see why this is a problem.

Once the game is loaded and the region appears, just take the cd out and put it in the case, that is what I do, so it doesn't heat up and eventually gets broken. You have to repeat everytime you start the game though.

I never take the cd out. Because, it never heats up that much at all. How long do you play it for?

I once lost a CD (Civ III) because I played for many hours each time and left the cd inside the drive until it was over and it heated so much that it didn't function properly anymore. Eversince I start the game with the cd and as soon as the introductory is finished I just pull it out and keep it in a safe place.

After you played for several hours with your cd in, take it out after and hold it on your cheek to see if it warmed up. You could be surprised.

I dont do it that long through for like 5 hours. I usually at most, I play 2 hours at a time. And when I take it out, its only warm. I usually dont go on that long when I un zip new buildings and other things into my plug-ins folder.

Even just a warming is not what's best for the health of the cd.......Your choice.
