Map Exchange problems

As I have noticed more and more people having problems with any number of images from our map exchange, I have created this topic for you to tell us which ones are causing you problems.
For fastest results ONLY state the map name, map creator (simtropolis name) and a SMALL explanation of your error. For example:

map: charleston
creator: mistress
errors: im getting 0x0 error, will not create region
i choose the proper jpeg and it only goes back to the region screen, does nothing.

I think this will help weeding out the problematic regions that could have a tiny error made by any of our 15,000 members.
thank you and happy creations

Also check out THIS TOPIC before reporting here, thank you.

ok i saw there was an error with the Charleston region, the region jpeg was set as RGB Colors instead of greyscale... the attached jpeg file is the proper one for that region and if dirk or ry can please fix this (replace that jpeg with this jpeg) it would be much appreciated...

I took a look at it and everything pans out.  As far as I can see it should work for you.

I beleive the Cincinnati map .jpg is also set to the wrong # of colors for being a greyscale. I had to open it up in PaintShop Pro and set it to greyscale and then resave it to make it work.

Thanks, Tass, for bringing that one up to me.   It should be fixed now also.

This is for all others that post a problem map here.  Please give the map name and the maker or even better the link to the map.  This will speed up the process of finding it.

Did you download the BMP file also?  If you did.  Did you put the BMP file in the region folder before rendering the map?

Ok, this is what i did.  I made a new folder in the regions folder, named seattle.  I then went and downloaded both the jpg and bmp files into the seattle folder. I then renamed the bmp file "config.bmp". Then i went into the game and opened up the seattle map, and of course it was blank,  Then I went to find the jpg file and tried to open it, and it told me the bitmap was 0x0, and it should be 1025x1025, so i dont know what im doing wrong.

I don't know what to say about that map.  I have checked the BMP size and the region size and they are compatible.  I won't have time tonight to render the map, but I'll try and get to it tomorrow.  If I can't get it to render then we may have to do some editing to it to get it to work.

I got it to work perfectly.  No problems what-so-ever.

I have attached the region files for you to try.  Let me know if they work.  Everything is named just the way you need.  Put the config file in your region file before you render the map.

One other thing I for got to tell you, make sure your screensaver is off when rendering maps.  Sometimes it can cause some problems.

I just uploaded another map, and the screenie isn't showing up? Then, I reuploaded the same pic. Still nothing.

This happened once before but resolved itself after a few hours. Anybody know why?

Flamesrock:  sometimes the server has a problem or two and dirk must go in and beat it senseless before it shows the images it is supposed to.

Actually the config file should be 12x12, but I get what you are saying. 3.gif  I'll try and fix it sometime today.  Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I changed the map size, so now it should work for you.  Try it out and let me know. 1.gif

I PMd and emailed them both to send in the region screen shots for their regions.  I am just waiting on them.

I also tried to upload it.  While it says that it was successful it still doesn't show.  I am calling some higher powers to help out.

    Thanks guys.

This is very strange. It happened to the CRD extended terrain, and worked a few hours later. The only thing that the two maps have in common is that the config file is not square.

    Errors: Will not create

When I open up the jpeg for the rendering, nothing happens. Works fine with other maps, but just can't get this one to process. Anyone else having this problem?

I beleive this is yet another map NOT saved as a greyscale but as RGB colors. When so, it won't even start to render. I tried to attach the fixed version but apparently, I am not allowed attach files???

Thanks for the warning.  I'll try and get that map later.  I also have two others that need checking, so I will try and do all three at once.

EDIT:  Washington, DC, should work fine now.  It was an RGB mode picture.  I also checked out Hampton Roads, needs to have the config file deleted as it is totally wrong, and Norfolk which seems fine to me.

The reason the map doesn't work is because it is an RGB JPEG instead of a greyscale.  Change that and it should work for you.  I can't change it because I am having some problems with my computer tonight.
