Hi,

I just started playing this game last night and I noticed that no matter what I did, the demand for agricultural land was always high, while everythign else went up and down.

Also, since I just started playing, what things do I need to do to improvement the game.  I understand I need to DL the NAM, but anything else?

Thanks in advance!!

Agriculture works differently from the other zones.

It always starts out very high, and stays there until you build a city big enough to provide all the things farms hate - traffic, education, and urban development. Be warned though, once the agricultural demand drops, you won't get it back again.

Even, when I want farming in a big city, relative for farms, like 50,000 people or more, I zone for farming before I build anything, cause after your population goes up and up and you zone more and build more, the demand for farming drops. I have a city with 62,000 (The one in my sig) and about 35% of the city's land is farming.

As some other people here clearly stated before me, just wait until you get a higher population and overall land value. Just as in SC3KU, agriculture doesn't like real high land value or urban areas to develop.

I usually zone for agriculture in the southwest quadrant of my city, the ugliest (and dirtiest) portion of my small town Prancelina.

I don't see the point in agriculture. It has incredibly low density. You get like 4 jobs for a 6x6 square of land. It also pollutes the water with all of their pesticides and such. I stick with dirty industry until my city matures enough for hightech.

I agree, Nathan. The only real advantage is the farm count toward the Farmer's Market, which increases land value up to the roof.

Not quite guys. Aside from the jobs provided by the farm building, each developed tile of fields includes 2 jobs, although the only way you can see this is the I-Ag line on the Jobs & Pop graph.

Basically, farming is just for the eye, and people use it to make the land feel and look rural.

There are some CSX farm fields that provide up to four jobs per tile, but all in-game Maxis farm fields provide one job per tile.

And if you want farming to have a lot of jobs, get the "Farm Job Multiplyer" in the "Modds and Downloads" section.
