1. on freight tracks, does industry need to be next to a track with a station at both ends, to use it? must it connect to the next city to be used? can you branch the tracks off into industry zones, and use them that way?

2. does a neighboring city gain anything from the freight train connection? or do the products go between one city and another hypothetical region? any benefit to be gained interconnecting two cities' freight tracks, or is it the same as two separate cities putting freight tracks to the edge of the city?

3. is it possible/profitable to force business or residents to use purely rail transit?

4. do water pumps pump more near the shore/inland waterways?

5. are airports or seaports encouraged by certain kinds of transit nearby?

6. can garbage and toxic waste be carried via rail?

7. is there a mod to make the pollution exist more realistically; instead of disappearing beyond city limits, affecting the next city as well?

and a thought... if a city gets disasters and monsters, it should get superheroes too.

There is no distinction between railroad tracks, freight, and passenger are the same.

Industrial zone touching the tracks don't need stations.  Rail freight is carted off into never-never land, run the tracks out of the city, even into space.

Neighboring cities don't get the freight, or benefit from it.

Water pumps gain no boost from being close to shore, or inland waterways.

It is not possible to force sims to use the rail, because the residential zones must have roads.

Finally you, the mayor are the super hero.

ok, if the industrial zones touching tracks dont need stations, what are freight stations for?

    and numbers 5, 6, 7?

thank you for your attention -bow-

when you have industrial zones that do not touch railroad tracks. your industrial zones will use freight trucks to transport freight to the freight station where the freight train takes it out of the city.

Freight is only put aboard from plants touching the tracks.  Other plants need to truck the goods to a station.  You can use rail sidings throughout the industrial area to take advantage of this, but at the expense of development space.

yeah, I guess monsters and superheroes are a bit farfetched. the mad scientist guy, I forget his name, they could replace him with a local mafia trying to move in and corrupt the politicians, I dont know. not a big deal really, although I enjoy cratered landscapes, and active volcanoes. some disasters make for good landscaping and atmosphere.

ok, aside from that; so I take it the sole requirements for a functioning freight train are 1.(either direct rail connection to industrial zone or a freight station connected by road to industrial) and 2. a rail connection that goes out-of-city?

more ooc. the flying saucer doesn't add much (being a monster) except I guess,  fun way to destroy things. but it would be cool if, they made a seti building reward, after a certain amount of high tech and mayor approval, you could build stuff to contact aliens, and set aside some zoning for them to terraform and create a little spaceport embassy. tourism would boom, along with commercial and high tech industry, the army would want to increase their presence, etc. maybe you could build stuff in little controlled environment nodes, for alien sojourners, and get approval ratings from alien citizens and get new tech from it. yeah, sounds like it would take a load of work on the scale of an add-on, but not a full conversion.

There is a U Drive It mission for the flying saucer, I think you get money, or mayor ratings for abducting sims.

You need the Area 5.1 for the mission.
