Importing a new city

Hello everyone!

I've been in these forums since a long time ago (one of the first people to create a new cool lot with the Lot Editor), but only recently came back to SimCity 4 after all the new content.

My problem is:

1) I've been dumb enough to overwrite my whole region while trying to copy the terrain from an elevation BMP. 45.gif I had no backup. I had some cities in this previous region, and they're gone. However, I got a recovery program for deleted files and got to save one of my beloved towns.

2) Now, I have a recreated region map, but cannot import the city back to the same spot.

Why?

3) When I press "import" button, I cannot find my city file in the menu (and region sub-menus), since it's obviously not part of any region yet.

Question: Is there any way I can "browse" my HD and find this city to import?

Thank you very much in advance. I know you people are very busy, but I'd be very happy with an answer! (On a different perspective, please save this poor troubled soul that has just lost days of his hard work 8.gif)

Copy the file into the "My Documents\Simcity 4\Regions\Downloads" folder, when you want to import you can find it there.

If you don't know where the file is now, then use the "Find" function of Windows, [i open it with the "Start and F" hotkey]. Search for the city name, or *.sc4

Just a reminder, you have to import the city into a city of the same size.

    Thanks for the swift response!

Indeed, I forgot the Downloads folder. However, it still cannot recognise my city... (it's the same size, since I put it on the same spot) I wonder why...

Oh well... thank you very much, though! 4.gif It'll be useful for the future.

The file should be named City-Name.sc4. It very well could have been corrupted in the undelete.

I get compulsive about copying my regions to another folder. It's a good thing huge hard drives are cheap now.

Yeah, indeed... I open the Downloads folder in the Import menu, and it's not there. I've tried renaming it to a bunch of things, but no avail... corrupted most certainly. My only recovered city, how sad. 15.gif

Guess that's what I'm going to do now... be a little compulsive about copying too... haha

I wouldn't be too sad. Now would be a great time to make a new city with the CAM being just released an all.

Very true! You're so right... that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for cheering me up! 9.gif
