Well im a very hard core fan of the rct series and simcity series. And noticed a connection in simularity.

Lets see rct1 and simcity1 - 4 are the same as they are all zoom able, and rotation wise.

Now rct3 was 3d and cartoonish, and simcity society deff. looks the same way.

I play rct3 its very good. Now that also brings me hopes that this game will be good.

Pros: ? You can zoom in 3d.

You can see your skyline.

Cons: Cartoonish

dictator, clowns?

I have hope for this game.

OK.... here is my take on that. I was OBSESSED with Roller Coaster Tycoon, I played it nonstop for all of middle and high school. My screen names were Roller Coaster tycoon related (as it my current (RCTshack)) and I had a fansite that I ran for the RCT fans... but when they announced the third one, most people screamed and CHEERED and were happy it was going 3D, but many people had their doubts also. I was afraid of the release, but it had some promising aspects and I loved the game to no end so I wanted to buy it.

When I bought it It was great... unfortunately 3D proved to be the fatal flaw that made me and every other player stop playing. It lacked detail to keep the viewer interested for more than a week and was very limited on options, and yes expantion packs were released but even then it was another week or two then boom, done.

I found myself only wanted to finish the Scenarios because they were the only chalanging part of the game and the sandbox would slow down so much because my park was too big one I had like 3 or 4 roller coasters. the 3D was too much for my machine. That's why our cities in SC:S can only reach a small population, because with the 3D it would kill our machines.

AND ON TOP OF THAT... the similarities of the situation seem the same. This Roller Coaster tycoon was the first one to not have it's original creater designing it, this one stripped down features that a lot of fans grew to love, and this one was completely reliant on fans "WANTING" 3D instead of a proper game. And in the end, we got the aesthetics of a skyline, but we got a not so great game. People may object, but in the end, this is the same thing that is happening to Sim City right now. And RCT wasn't even really dumbed down, and it was still not challenging because of the lost features when turning to 3D.

The sad realization that most people are going to have when they play SC:S is that 3D doesn't make it feel real at all, and that one thing that made them love the game was the feeling of a real city built by them. RCT3 lost the magic when going to 3D, the magic I had grown to love and even helped to create a website and base my life around for a while, gone.

This is why SC:S scares me. And people tell me to cool down, but they aren't real fans it seems, they don't have one bit of emotional attachment to their games, they just play cause they are bored, whereas real fans play because they love the game.

did roller coaster tycoon die for good because of that? i never really into that series..you hear a lot of games that come and gone, simcity probably done well to get this far to be honest.

I suspect sadly this will see the death of simcity, as much as i like to have faith in the new game the fact is all the old fans will drop off once simcity 4 gets boring and old and i doubt new one will grab people for very long period of time as you said about RTC3 8.gif

I guess the only hope is EA did say they would go back to what made simcity if this goes wrong, thing is why go here in the first place ?? because by then EA just turn round and say theres no demand for a new simcity game.

rct, I wouldn't play any game if I didn't love it, or at least, like it a whole bunch.

But you should realize, there are some "real fans" out there who have a different perspective.  For example, many real fans don't base their lives around a game, even for awhile.  But that does not mean we are not fans.

If I found myself getting bored a lot I certainly wouldn't be trying to cure the boredom with a computer game.  That would be very unhealthy for me to do.  No, I would be looking for the root cause of the boredom, so I can spend my computer time having fun rather than trying to make life not hurt.

I based my life in middle school around it. Now I don't have the luxury of basing anything but work and school around my life.

I think the whole idea of making a cute and easy to play games is the wave of the future unless parents start acting like parents and the game companies tell the elected officials to take a flying leap.

I mentioned the add-ons above, but it only made the games better for a week or so. Try to find more than 5 Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 fansites, you won't find many. Obviously the game sold well, but that doesn't mean it's a great game, it just initially sold well. I bought it the week it came out because i loved the previous two. This is the connection to SC:S that I am seeing. A lot of people will buy the game because of the name and on paper... the game will sell well, but none of us will be playing it for 5 years, we will lose interest and EA will think the game was a sucess because we all bought it in the first place.

That's more of a violence thing. I doubt there will be a movement of parents to get Sim City back to what it was before. They most likely would fight to make the game less addicting so kids will do school work instead.
