What about transportation infrastructure?

Transportation is a big element of how we all play Sim city, leaving this element out of SC is what makes it unattractive to me, as I'm sure it puts the rest of you off as well.

Its not only the transportation... its the ugly looking buildings and the lack of them. This game is just way too repetative so it seems, they say thatr simcity4 had the same problem, but did it really? There were 2 types of roads which both looked pretty nice, there was lotrs of rail options and bridges and Highways, busses, subways, the list goes on and on! Plus, Simcity4 had a special feature which changed houses if the occupants got richer or poorer or moved out, which really gave a feel to them... SCS just has the same plain houses, boring... not transport...lame...the lack of anything we wanted, and the lack of even completing the game so it seems... very lame, I fold for sure, unless I see it in a bargain bin for $9.99, otherwise, no...

This is not a thread about whether you or anyone else intends to buy the game. Please stick to the topic.

Agreed. If they scrapped everything else and just made this an improved transportation sim it would go a long way toward giving us SC5.

They just copied City Life by monte cristo which was a poor quality ripp off of  Sim City. The screenshots from Societies looks exactly like City Life. City life only had roads, no highways, no nothing. I think Societies is gonna be a ripp off of a rippoff of sim city. Its sad that Maxis dropped sim city and let somebody else come in and ruin it.

Though I will reserve my official judgment until I play the demo, from what I've seen so far, this doesn't look like the Sim City we're looking for. This is more like... focusing on a few city blocks instead of an entire city. Probably why they didn't think to include a sophisticated transit network.

This is not Sim City 5. We'll have to wait a bit longer for that.

The apparent lack of transportation variety is an instant write-off for me. If I can't build a highway (I haven't seen them) or a two-lane road (only seen 4 lane) then this isn't the game for me. A large percentage of my time playing SC4 is planning and building transportation infrastructure, and it's much the same in reality.

Honestly, all that was needed for a new SimCity was some streamlining in the tools and information department (to increase accessability), a variety of pre-game settings to tailor gameplay to the individual, and some improved functionality (diagonal roads and easier modding capabilities anyone?) We needed a new version of what we already had, not an entirely different game.
