History.jpg

The history of Domena Lorella is one of conquest and culture, revolution and regents, victory and defeat, spanning over the course of centuries. From the confluence of Germanic and Roman traditions to the cataclysmic events of the early 20th century, Domena Lorella has played a part in many of the most monumental events in European history. Historians have classified these events into nine eras, which are listed below and linked to a more in-depth analysis. As a country with over a millennium of history, however, only major occurrences are documented.HistoryMontage.jpg

Glance.jpg

Nestled in the Alps between Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Lichtenstein, Domena Lorella is a beautiful nation. Because of its position, the Lorellian culture is an assemblage of a variety of traditions and beliefs from its neighboring countries, however, this has led to the emergence of a distinctly different society unlike any in Europe. In addition, Domena Lorella is the only remaining European government in which a monarch is able to exercise some forms of absolute rule, unlike the royal family of Great Britain which has devolved into a ceremonial position. Below is a map of the nation, with city names as well as major natural landmarks.

A big thanks to jplumbley for making the map; Invermere Valley.

The map below shows the location of Domena Lorella in relation to the rest of Western Europe. Dark green is Lorellian territory, light green nations are members of the European Union and gray nations have no affiliation with the European Union. In addition to the central territory of Domena Lorella in the Alps, the Lorellian government holds a province in the Netherlands that was acquired during World War II; this is shown on the map as well.

Flag.jpg     Seal.jpg

The flag and seal of Domena Lorella share the symbol of the lion. Dating back to the nation's Roman roots, the lion symbolizes the power of the Lorellian monarchy. The color green is indicative of the wonderful natural beauty that is often associated with Domena Lorella, considering it's location in the Alps. The Lorellian motto adorns the seal, which reads "Fermezza tras il Retg. Lung star il Reginam." Translated from Romansh into English, it means "Strength through the King. Long live the kingdom."

Politics.jpg

The government structure of Domena Lorella is complex, combining the power of an absolute monarch, heredity royalty, religious morality and economic impact. Many nations have criticized what they view as a lack of democratic process in Domena Lorella, however, the system has been carefully implemented and changed over the decades to strike a perfect balance that has proven to be overwhelmingly successful.

GovernmentStructure.jpg

The Federal Parliamentary Chamber is the main organ of the government structure, responsible for proposing laws and amendments to the constitution. There are a total of seventy seats in the Chamber which are held mainly by three major political parties. They are Royalist, Green and Communist and symbolized below.

The parties are divided in the Federal Parliamentary Chamber as follows:

That's it for the first update of Domena Lorella. This new CJ will be the successor to the Republic of Rauheim which sadly was not going in the direction I wanted. Third time is the charm! The first images from Simcity 4 will be shown tomorrow, I hope to see you then.

Awww....I was extremely interested in what part Domena Lorella would play in the Cold War, I guess I'll just have to wait 15.gif An excellent history however that has entertained me greatly 9.gif Good idea on how you got that little piece in Holland, though the wiki didn't explain how you kept it after the Germans lost the war (I assume you didn't finish that part).

    Chapter1.jpg

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    1-1-11.jpg

    1-1-12.jpg

    1-1-13.jpg

This area of Ossian overlooks the Bragger Hafen. The largest commercial sector, Sgrattatschiel Marketplace, is home to many of the biggest Lorellian corporations. The many high-speed rail lines that cut through every major city converge here at the Staziun Sgrattatschiel. In addition, one of the many tram lines cuts through this section of the city. The whole of Ossian is connected by these short, quick transit lines.

    1-1-21.jpg

    1-1-22.jpg

    1-1-23.jpg

The city of Ossian is covered in historic, old buildings. To ensure that these structures remain to preserve Domena Lorella's history, there are strict laws pertaining to the construction of skyscrapers. The Commercial Zoning Commission, a derivative of the Council of Guildmasters, carefully chooses locations for new commercial office sectors. Recently, however, skyscrapers have begun to dominate many of the historic city skylines in Domena Lorella as the economic power of the nation continues to grow immensely.

    1-1-31.jpg

    1-1-32.jpg

The large green and gold building is home to the Federal Parliamentary Chamber. It overlooks the waters of Stgir Bay and stands in the shadow of the Catedrala da Gronda Spada, or Cathedral of the Great Sword. The center of the Roial Catholic Church, the structure is home to the Roial Archduke and is the location for the coronations of Lorellian kings. The cathedral was put forth by the Domena Lorella Commission for Historical Preservation as a candidate for the Seven Wonders of the SCJU, you can view the bid here. The small green building between the cathedral and the Parliamentary Chamber is the mausoleum of the Rohr line of kings, who led during both World Wars. The mausoleum is unique and was constructed after World War II in response to the callous murder of the entire royal family by the communist revolutionaries.

    1-1-41.jpg

    1-1-42.jpg

Another smaller commercial sector and a better view of the Catedrala da Gronda Spada. The sunken rail line is reserved for freight only and runs mainly underground, linking the large industrial parks on the outskirts of Ossian with Bragger Hafen. On the edge of the image you can see a glimpse of the Lorellian highway system, which connects all major cities. Autostrada 10, shown here, is currently incomplete and undergoing reconstruction.

    1-1-51.jpg

    1-1-52.jpg

    1-1-53.jpg

Another view from the front of the Catedrala da Gronda Spada. At the bottom of the image you can see the beginning of high speed rail line which is raised above the city to avoid road crossings in favor of tunnels.

I put tons of work into the background information and history, it's my favorite part of doing a city journal. I can't take credit for the beautiful region, sadly.
    3.gif

    Simfan34
-Yes, Ollanda is the Dutch part. In Romansh it means Holland. As of now Domena Lorella is a peaceful nation and it has very good relations with its neighbors, considering the cultural influence each exerts on the country. However, you never know what could happen...it only takes a change in leadership to screw things up.

-Well the part about the Cold War is probably the longest and most complicated to right...let's just Domena Lorella emerges from World War II as a communist nation and the royal family is killed Romanov style. And yes, I still have a lot of the history to finish, so all will be explained eventually.

-I intend to make it better then Rauheim in all aspects, however the two nations are vastly different in style as I'm sure you can see.

-The region is beautiful...hence why I chose it.
    9.gif
It's difficult to develop, however, considering everything not along the river is very mountainous.

This is just great! I mean it: no sarcasm! The realism of glass boxes being rare due to zoning restrictions and all that is awesome! All the low buildings and beautiful coast remind me of a larger Carmel. Besides, if that large green-gold building is just for the offices of the __________, then I can't stand the wait to see the main capitol building! Leonardo

    Chapter2.jpg

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    1-2-11.jpg

As mentioned in Chapter 1, Ossian is home to the largest port in central Domena Lorella (central Domena Lorella refers to the landlocked territory in the Alps and does not include the region in the Netherlands). Located on Stgir Bay, this is the final destination for shipping along the Rhine. Many of the ships that arrive at Bragger Hafen first enter the mouth of the Rhine at the North Sea, coming from a variety of locations all over the world.

    1-2-21.jpg

    1-2-22.jpg

    1-2-23.jpg

    1-2-24.jpg

This image shows three of the four terminals that make up the port. At the top is the bulk terminal, where large items unsuitable for containers are unloaded. In the center is the massive container terminal, and below that is the oil terminal. Nearly eighty percent of Domena Lorella's oil imports come through Bragger Hafen.

    1-2-31.jpg

    1-2-32.jpg

    1-2-33.jpg

The fourth and final terminal is shown here in the early morning, that is the garbage disposal terminal. Because of the disproportion between Domena Lorella's small size and large population, it is unable to support functioning larndfills and is forced to pay a hefty price to export garbage along the Rhine to Germany, France and the Netherlands.

    1-2-41.jpg

    1-2-42.jpg

As with many nations, Domena Lorella has no domestic access to oil. It does, however, have a large refining capacity. Crude oil that comes through Bragger Hafen is held at the port, then shipped by rail to the large industrials park in the Franzos Quartier, many of which lie within Ossian. Refineries in these parks make the crude into gasoline, which is then usually sent by truck to neighboring countries for a large price. Domena Lorella itself has a very low demand for gasoline, considering the excessive use of public transportation.

    -Thank you.
    16.gif

    Simfan34
-Well after making the packed and crowded cities of Rauheim I'm looking to strike a balance between open areas and wall-to-wall buildings. Despite the rapid growth of Ossian's skyline, however, some areas are deemed undevelopable to keep the city spacious.

    Amerikaner
-So maybe I lied, I do put a lot of work into building my cities, hence why updates are always a few days apart. I'm glad all my work gets such flattering recognition.
    9.gif

    petriknl
-Well the territory technically isn't occupied, however it is the location of the only Lorellian naval base and maintains a strong military presence.
    2.gif
The Dutch, as you can imagine, still what the land back, causing some hostility between the two nations. As for the circle, I just made a donut shape in Photoshop and cut it in half.
    3.gif

    TheSixCents
-Well I'm still undecided whether or not this is my best work, I was quite fond of Rauheim's build style. I'm glad you like it though!
    1.gif

    topcliff
    -Thank you very much!
    9.gif
While there is no capitol building, there
    is
the royal palace, which is still a massive work in progress.

    ilikehotdogsalot
-Well that's strange, because every time I see an update to your
    CJ
    I get jealous.
    5.gif
I'm very flattered by your comments, though. I put a great deal of time into scrolling through endless menus just to get the perfect lot to finish an area off and make sure every detail is just right before snapping a shot.

    manman99
    -Thanks a lot!
    48.gif

-Looks like your good luck wish paid off, the Catedrala da Gronda Spada is leading in the polls, only a vote or two behind the Celtica Colossus by Sixu!

This truly is a fantastic CJ! I love the presentation of it, and your style is so wonderfully realistic. Everything goes together so nicely, whether it's your modern towers next to your old wall to wall buildings, the transition is impeccable. I'm really enjoying the development of the country, keep up the great work!
