When I said those comments I didn't want to be mean. I think your downtown is fantastic, it just doesn't have that feel of a downtown. But, anyway, I can't wait to see your suburbs!

man your downtown is awesome the only thing i could possibly suggest is grouping a bunch together on top of one another to signify the core of downtown.

    Update 2:

I'll start off this update with some new region shots, though be warned they are very large and may take awhile to load on slower internet conections.

    Region Shot:

    Region Shot (Transportation):

    http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8093/coastalheights2sk5.jpg

I was planning on the next update focusing on developing the island to the east of downtown, but I have instead decided to start construction on some of the downtown's surrounding residential neighborhoods and also extend the feeder/connector highway to Main Street (the avenue running parallel to the train station that splits into two one way roads next to the ball park).

    Entertainment District (nearly finished):

Feeder Highway Terminating at Main Street:

New Downtown Interchange (Winner of the most needlessly overcomplicated interchange award 3.gif)

Feeder Highway Through the University Heights District:

Closeup on the neighborhood north of the Carson Bay Central Station:

That's it for this update, I will be doing replies later.  On a final note, I would like to advise anyone who is experiencing SC4 stability issues (crashing) and using a multi core and/or hyper threading processor to turn off the hyper threading feature.  After doing this on my machine I was able to play for over an hour and a half without a single zoom crash, though be warned the game may run a little slower (though its worth it if you don't have to reenter the game every 10 minutes).

Stayed tuned for the next update featuring island developement!

    A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 17.gif!!!!

I love your roadlayouts, not a mess, like some, but everything is well placed 9.gif.

And you neigboorhood are also very good!

Question: Which ground and water mod do you use, I'll steal it 12.gif. And which roadmod at the last picture, at the back of those shops. Pegasus?

I'm looking foreward to your new update!

    Take care and be safe,

    Replies:

From now on please ask any questions regarding where I found certain custom content in the form of a pm and ask only as a last resort after you have searched all of your available resources (STEX, BSC Lot Exchange, etc).  Any requests made in this thread will be ignored.  Sorry to sound so harsh, but in an effort to keep this cj unclogged with excessive questions, I implore you to please ask them elsewhere.  Thank you in advance!

sebbyb07: Thanks!  Update 2 has a full region shot, but I don't think that it looks too impressive yet, I've still got to add a ton of sprawl to capture the look that I'm going for.

jacqulina: Thanks, hopefully I will add some more to the story/history once I get more of my city built, right now I just wanted to give everyone a general idea of Carson Bay's orgins.

kitexan254: The answer to your question is in my first post.

dfnva: Thanks, I'm glad you like them 10.gif!

koekie01 (1): Thanks, the port will definetly be the city's most extensive project.  Right now I am planning on it tacking up around 1/2 of a large city tile, with the surrounding industry tacking up another 1/4 and then extending some along the frieght lines.

homeandaway: Well, I hope you liked my newest update 3.gif!

tomdapom (1): No worries, constructive critism is always welcomed!  Judging by your cj I'm guessing that you are more familiar with mid west cities like Chicago that have much more historic downtowns, which is why your vision of what a downtown should look like is different from mine.  I live in Florida where most of the major cities don't have larger historic buildings or districts.  CBDs here are comprised of very modern skyscrapers, with the historic districts being much more low density similiar to Ybor City or Hyde Park witch are Tampa Bay's historic sections of town.  This is due to the fact the skyscapers didn't really start to develope in this region until much more recently, versus cities like Chicago and New York that have been building them since the turn of the century.  So in short my city reflects more of a typical South Eastern U.S. city than a Mid West or North Eastern U.S. city.

clonedclone87:  Thanks for the comment, though I don't think that I will be adding anything more to the downtown.

tomdapom (2): Thanks, these new districts are more of the starting points for the historic districts that I mentioned in my last comment, as they feature some low density older shops, an historic church (some old fashioned schools are coming too), and plenty of row homes.  Like in many Florida cities the historic areas are somewhat detached from the CBD which usually developers into a sea of modern skyscapers and entertainment venues.

Hope to see you again 10.gif!

collgab: Thanks for the great comment!  I have a pretty good plan of how I want my city to look in my head, its just hard to always get that image to translate over to SC4, though so far I'm happy with my results.

koekie01 (2): Wow, I'm glad you like my city so much, thanks for the nice comment 4.gif!

For future reference, while I don't mind answering questions about custom content, please ask me in the form of a PM, that way I can keep my cj less cluttered.

    1) I use cycledogg's original terrain mod (available on this site in the Modds/Downloads section), and one of Pegasus' water mods (though I downloaded it around 2 years ago so I don't remember which one).

    2) Yep, those were made by Pegasus.  Some are from the Pegasus Scenic Drive Kit: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=5&Keyword=pegasus&view=all and the others are from the Pegasus Alley Kit:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=10&Keyword=pegasus&view=all

waldner: Thanks, I'm glad you liked the update!

Godzillaman: I will also refer you to my first post.

    Carson Bay Central High School:

    Eastern View:

The Marriot Hotel, located close to downtown though away from the entertainment districts, is generaly popular with traveling bussinessmen and families looking for cheaper rates.

Yes, I have little knowledge of Southern cities. I didn't know Carson Bay was in Florida, so thanks for that info 4.gif. The city seems to make a lot more sense now, I really want to see your suburbs!

tomdapom:  Well, while it is modeled a lot after Florida's cities it is actually located in North Carolina simple because that is the best geographical location for me to incorporate everything I want to into this city.  On the island to the east of downtown, you will see a large beach community similiar to Clearwater, Datona Beach, Miami Beach etc with sprawling beaches, shopping, high rise condos and hotels/resorts.  Whereas unlike in Florida, I also wanted to build in some more semi mountanous regions, which if you look at the western half of my region, you will see that although they are not full mountains, there are lot of large hills, much too large for Florida (hence why I choose a some what mountanous state like N.C., even though I know the mountains don't extend that close to the shore in real life).  So yes, you will see a lot of Floridian characteristics, though I have also tried to make the city appear a little more northern, mainly through the use of row homes, which are not built nearly to that extent in Florida (most neighborhoods around a CBD will go straight to low density residential, with the occasional high/mid rise condo building).  I hope this helps clarify my building style a bit.

suplado!: Thanks, I'm glad you like them!

collgab: Thanks for the great support 10.gif!  Highway building is actually one of my favorite parts about SC4, and I'm glad that so many people seem to like them so far.

jayo: Sprawl is coming, be patient 3.gif.  I've got around 7 large city tiles to fill with suburbs.

Oh and I think that I already have jeronij's tree mod, I've just only been using a few different types of trees along the river, though I might experiment with some more variaty.  I don't usually use bushes, since they don't seem to show up all that well beyond the first couple of zoom levels.

koekie01:  No problem, cycledogg's terrain mods have been moved to a new site:

https://www.sc4devotion.com/.  Once you register for the BSC Lot Exchange at that site, you should be able to find all of his work there, just search "terrain," in the power search option.

    waldner:  Thanks for the comment!

    Mini Update 2.2:

    Interchange Correction & City Overview

Well after reviewing my new interchange I came to the realization that I had missed an exit ramp.  Before there was no way for people traveling towards downtown to exit to the feeder highway towards the central train station.  Now after moving the Marriot across the street, I have officially finished the downtown interchange.

As a bonus shot for this mini update, I also present you with a new view of my downtown:

That's all for today, thanks everyone for your comments and support 10.gif!

Yes, I'm not a very good searcher 12.gif.

Good update as always 44.gif. I'm looking foreward to your suburbs. And your port and airpot ofcourse 2.gif.

Dude, those interchanges are awesome! I hope you don't mind if I copy some of your ideas that you used here. Also, nice use of the "Juicebox" there. The Light Rail system needs a bit of work though, because as far as I can tell, it has no real route or other stuff. Leonardo

    Mini Update 2.3

Island Preview & Small Downtown Improvements:

Well I finally started work on the island east of downtown, simple known as Carson Bay Beach.  Here is a very early preview shot of what I have planned for the island's developement:

    carsonbaymay15411185503on0.jpg

And finally another shot of downtown showcasing some small improvements to the entertainment district:

    carsonbaymay22411185504be5.jpg

    Replies:

Amerikaner: Thanks I'm glad you like my transportation network 10.gif!

jacqulina: Thanks for the great support, hope to see you again!

koekie01: I'm going to have to say my bad on this one, it turns out I gave you the wrong link 12.gif.  After doing some more searching I found out that the original C.P. Columbus Terrain Mod is still avaliable on the STEX, and the ones on SC4Devotion are just modifications to it.  Here's a link to the actual terrain mod (note the mod comes with options for snow in the installation process): https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=13804

If you search the STEX for cycledogg's work, you will aslo find the tree mods that accompany the terrain texture mod (there are several downloads).

topcliff: Not at all, imitation is the sincerist form of flatery 3.gif!  To be honest, this is the first time that I have really tried to build a light rail system (or regular rail for that matter) in my cities, so I don't have a lot of experience with them.  Right now the goal of my LR service is to connect the central train station to all of the different districts around the downtown area and the island.  The station by the train station acts as the central hub of the network and the LR branches out from there going to Carson Bay Beach, the entertainment district and the rest of downtown.

Thanks again everyone for your comments!  Once I finish off the island, I will then begin to develope more of the suburbs surrounding the city's core.

Very, very nice city! Just one question. What do u plan on using to get people from the Beach to the CBD and back? A bridge, a ferry system or something else? Im really eager to see what this city will look like.
