Stubborn Graphic Settings

Hello all,
There is a very strange bug in my SC4 that has been happening since 2005 or something...just one day it started happening. The problem is that whenever I make a change to the graphic settings and restart the game (as it says to), the settings revert to before I changed it. Currently my graphic settings are at the highest possible, but sometimes I just want to cut it down a bit since it slows my computer down, but it just never listens...can anyone please help me on that? Thank you!
Computer Specs: AMD Athlon 6400, 384 mb of RAM, 145 GB of disk space, ATI RAdeon Xpress 200 (built in)

Oh and I have SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

Get more ram... really max out your system... you won't regret it.

If he's got a Radeon Xpress chipset, it probably means he's using a laptop. In which case, it's pointless to urge him to max out his RAM.

True, but my laptop can take 1.5gb or ram.

So, who knows.

@Sobol-That's what I was thinking. But...I was kinda looking for a way that was quick and easy. Thanks for the tip, though.
@Prince_of_sims: You mean ATI mobility radeon. Laptops usually use those chipsets. I have SimCity on my desktop computer.

try 'jumping' a few graphics levels. Instead of doing the one below do one even furthur.... lol, im no whizz...

Maybe restart your PC itself when simcity says you have to restart the game... :S

    Is the disk damaged?

@Wezza: Um...well, technically whenever I turn off the computer, and turn it back on, that's restarting, right? I have had this game since '05, and still the problem insists...thanks for the tip, though.

As far as I remember, a file called GraphicsRules.sgr saves your graphics settings (I'm not completely sure if that's the name of the file though. Maybe someone can correct me). Check to see if that file has been left Read-only.

There is something else I should tell you guys. The region always starts out in "Timbuktu" and when I go in a city it always starts at night...so that meeans that the ENTIRE GAME reverts itself to what it was the last time I was in the game...As I should say, again, is that this all started in 2005. This is extremely strange, so I am calling mostly the attention of the most experinced SC4 players with lots of knowledge on the game's files on the computers (but i am NOT saying that other people can't post their ideas, too).

I usually exit it normally, and currently I am re-installing the game to see if that helps.

Re-installing the game works. Now I can change the graphic settings freely without it beeing reverted to before. What I learned out of this is that if you have the same problem, back up your plugins, regions, and cities, and completely uninstall the game, and once it's done, remove all traces of SC4 being on your computer (except your backed up copies). Then install the game, put all the files back where they belong, and there! You're done.

Thank you, Imprezza05, for the idea of re-installing the game. Now I can do CJs!
