Council House BAT Project

Hey all, I've just learnt how to use Gmax & BAT, and have just finished my first project. It is based on a UK Council House (post 1950) based upon an area where I live in Sudbury (Suffolk), England. Below is a pic of the structure during BAT (front):

BAT.jpg

It has been put on a 2 by 2 lot. It has night lighting as well as traditonal council estate textures (ie. red/brown - brick/tiles).

I have some problems though, I'm not sure how to set details such as which building type it grows in (ie. Euro-Modern, New York etc) and I'm also unsure of how to get it into the game to see it and how to affect how much it grows. If anyone can help that'd be great, Cheers!

(Will post some more pics later)

Congratulation, that looks like a fine start! 4.gif

However, I disagree when you say that the building is finished. While the model looks ok, the textures appear to be far from finished. Of course, it's also hard to tell from a gmax screenie - an in-game shot is always better to judge these things. Even without seeing an in-game shot, I couldn't fail to notice that the roof texture tiles very obviously, that all textures are rather bright, and that you basically just applied a tiling "endless" texture to all parts of the building without any modification.

Textures are the "make it or break it" area when it comes to BAT models with simple shapes, so you want to get them perfect in order to achieve something that everybody would like to see in his town. 2.gif

Probably the best way of texturing is by  "skinning" each surface of the building with a customised texture that has been edited with PhotoShop or similar software to add a slight gradient, smudges etc. As usual, I recommend 6459978's Toronto BATs thread on page 12, gascooker's Omnibus tutorial on gradients, and whatever people like Jasoncw can tell you by means of tutorials and/or individual advice.

Keep it up, though - if you have gotten this far, I'm sure you'll master the rest as well. 19.gif

Thanks for the advice. After looking at it on Lot Editor, the bricks look fine but I have to agree that the roof tiles look slightly strange (sorry about size):

    Being based upon this:

I will try and change the roof tiles to make them look more realistic.

Also have you got answers to some of the other questions (in first post)

    Thanks.
